More or less. Doctors in my observation have often been
terrible about taking their own advice. The admonition
"physician, heal thyself" is not irrelevant.

In fact it's one of the original sources from which the drug
companies isolated the things. The paradox being that the FDA
will regulate lovastatin-containing red yeast rice but do
nothing about a quack red yeast rice product that doesn't work.

Luckily there are still trees. Oyster mushrooms are not hard to
find in temperate deciduous forests. I'm pretty sure that the
Internet figures are wrong, because given the low figure of 0.4%,
that would mean that 2.5 g of mushroom, about half a teaspoon,
would contain a clinically significant dose of lovastatin, which
would then imply that a lot of people who ate the mushrooms would
be falling down with cramps a lot of the time.

Not surprising, as chickpeas are easy to grow, cheap, and
well liked by all the various tribes, races, and nationalities
of the area.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Hummus (Live!)
 Categories: Dips, Spreads, Classic, Live!
      Yield: 2 Cups

      1 cl Garlic
    1/4 c  Tahini (sesame paste)
           Available in most major
           Stupormarkups or specialty
           Food stores
    1/4 c  Fresh lemon juice
      2 c  Canned chickpeas, drained
           And rinsed
    1/2 c  Water
    1/4 ts Ground cumin, or to taste
    1/4 ts Cayenne, or to taste
           Salt
           Extra-virgin olive oil
           Lemon wedges
           Grilled pita triangles

  In a food processor or blender combine the garlic clove,
  tahini, and lemon juice and process until the mixture
  "whitens." Add the chickpeas and process until smooth. Add
  water, a little at a time, to achieve desired consistency. Add
  the cumin, cayenne and salt and process. Taste and adjust
  seasoning if necessary.  Transfer dip to a serving bowl, smooth
  top and drizzle with olive oil. Serve with lemon wedges and pita.

  Yield: about 2 cups dip
