=================================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Steve grew up about 15 miles west of Brockport, just south of 104
RH> (Ridge Road). It's flat enough that the snow comes right in off the
RH> lake. A few miles south of that and there's not nearly as much

NB> This year, we've had a not so typical snow pattern... dunno quite what
NB> it's been out where Steve grew up, but here in the city we've mostly
NB> had less snow than places to east, west and south of us... even on the
NB> lake effect snow days... We've had quite enough snow all the same, as
NB> far as I'm concerned... (G) I guess my snow tolerance is lowering
 NB> with the
 NB> years... ;)

We've not heard too much from his siblings about the snow amounts this
winter. Steve does have Hulberton listed as one of his "regular checks"
on Weather Underground so we see, from time to time, how cold/warm it is
there. Our tolerance for snow and cold has gone down quite a bit,
especially since we've lived in warmer climates for so long.

NB> full meal until NB>> I reach the destination. I always have a spare
NB> blanket in the car, NB>> since one never knows...

RH> A good idea. We have, when we drove north in the winter--and would
RH> have done so again had we gone up to NY last month. We don't nibble in
RH> the car as much as we used to but would make sure we had munchies for a
RH> winter road trip, just in case.

NB> I've used the blanket other times of year, too.. comes in handy when
NB> at a conference where one should have brought their own linens... or
 NB> when
NB> visiting family that may have others staying too... etc... :)

We probably should carry something year round. I could cut up some of
our old jeans and make some sort of a sturdy quilt/throw (hmm, just had
an idea--back a jeans/denim top with a fleece throw, no filler needed).
A couple of those in some sort of stuff sack..........

NB> NB>> Good planning... when you get back you'll be tired... and off
 NB> and NB>> running again besides. (G)

RH> Yes, we got back Tuesday morning (late). After lunch and a few
RH> errands, we got back home about 2:30. I went to bed and slept for
RH> about 12 hours, hard, a few more, tossing and turning. We did a bit of
RH> grocery shopping Wed. night after church at Harris Teeter; Thursday at
RH> Fresh Market in Chapel Hill after an appointment, also the new Trader
RH> Joe's in Raleigh on the way home and finished with odds & ends today at

NB> As I said... off and running... ;) Glad you are back safe and
NB> sound... I'm looking forward to the forthcoming reports. :)

Steve has given more "formal" reports; I'm adding tidbits of information
here & there to various messages. One thing that is so surprising about
the country is all the crops they can grow, thanks to modern irrigation
methods. We'd see lush fields of green but not even 1/10 of a mile away
there would be prickly pear (the most common type of cactus we saw) in
an uncultivated field. The land is overall desert but the desert has
been made to bloom--and grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

 RH> ... I don't have the time for a hobby. I have a computer.

NB> That, of course, is a hobby in and of itself... ;)

Unfortunatly, pulling me away from my sewing until I get caught up. I'm
pretty well caught up with Fido now but trying to maintain a daily mail
check so I don't get too far behind as I catch up on other things. Sigh!

Catch you later,
Ruth
