Ärende: Israel trip                                              [1]
====================================================================
Hi Hap,

 hn> Shalom Ruth!

Familiar greeting. We were over there on New Year's Day which was not
celebrated over there like it is in other places we've been. Still,there
were a few holiday related issues--one place we were supposed to see was
closed. It was also the Islamic holy day; the next day the Jewish
Sabbeth and then the Christian Sabbeth the next day.

-> hn> Welcome back to CONUS!

-> Thanks; I'm mostly re=adjusted time wise. Every so often tho I'll feel
-> like dropping everything and taking a nap (but usually don't). Most of
-> for a lot of walking. As I finished packing, I tossed in a pairof
-> older, well used walking shoes. I ended up wearing them just about
-> every day because they were best suited for the terrain we covered.

 hn> Bumpy ground all around! Sounds like
 hn> you had a great (but busy) time!

It's a trip we had thought about over the years; several things factored
in to having this the right time to take the trip. Finances, time
available, etc all worked together. We came back to COLD! weather; it
was a surprise after nice warm days over there.

-> hn> At least she's gotten better and now they
-> hn> can move on to doing the checking and
-> hn> find out what they can do to help her!

-> Yes, tho school has started again and she's probably back in day care.
-> Hopefully she won't pick up any more bugs from the other kids until all
-> the testing she needs is done.

 hn> Ha! Good luck with that! Kids at that
 hn> age are little germ pots, sharing bugs
 hn> with all and sundry!

I know; Rachel thinks she has to work, wich means day care for Sarah
which means more chance of picking up a germ or virus, which means
Rachel has to take off from work, etc.

-> -> Thanks; all the prayers have helped. We had a Skype chat last night

->  hn> I'm sure everyone enjoyed that!!
 hn> ->
-> Sarah was a bit wiggly--which is good, actually. She did wave and
-> played a bit o peek a boo. OTOH, keeping her brother from being a big
-> ham was more of a challenge for Rachel. It's nice that we can do the

 hn> In this case wiggly is very good!

Very good compared to what she had been doing (a lot of nothing) before.

-> -> costly at lunch & supper, we stayed with the water for the most part. I
-> -> had a Coke once and we split a soft drink made in Dubai another time.

-> hn> I generally prefer water, I like water so
->  hn> that's no problem for me...I'm trying to

-> We've had water in some places that was just about undrinkable straaight
-> from the tap. In Berlin, it had a heavy sulpher content. Don't know
-> what it was in Savannah but Steve had problems drinking the tap water.
-> We bought a distiller in Germany and used it until it died in AZ. After
-> that we just drank the water "as is" until we moved to GA. We got a
 faucet filter then, got another type but same idea a few
months after -> moving here.

hn> -> hn> We have pretty good water here,
but I've hn> lived places where it was almost nasty...but hn> oddly
enough, after a few weeks...it tastes hn> like water. We also have a
Brita pitcher and hn> we use that as well.

I'm drinking the tap water here more than Steve is.

-> hn> remember the last time I had a soft drink...

-> I took home (from Life Group) about 12 oz of Diet Coke, all that was
-> left in a 2 liter bottle, on Sunday and finished it Monday. It would

 hn> Now they just taste way too sweet to me.

Most of the time I drink Diet Coke. The others are mostly too sweet for
me, especially the Pepsi stuff.

-> -> plate for each person with a gutted out fried fish on it. Most still
-> -> had the head & tail. Some of our group were a bit bothered by it,

->  hn> Gosh, I know we have become a
->  hn> squeamish bunch...but just because a
-> hn> fish is fried with the head attached? My goodness!
-> hn> Of course Annie would have starved at that
->  hn> restaurant (grin)....

-> It surprised me at first but I had no problems dealing with it. I guess
-> some folks just were either not that much into fish or into fish with
-> the head & fins still on. Given a choice, I'd rather have flounder than
-> tilapia but at least we knew this wasn't Asian raised tilapia.

 hn> I grew up catching, cleaning and eating all sorts
 hn> of fish, and it didn't mater to me whether I left
 hn> the head on or not when I cooked it.

But you knew what you were getting. We knew we were getting fish, just
didn't expect it in that form.

-> We like hummus quite a
-> hn> bit and have it in the house almost all the time.
-> hn> I use it on Anne's wraps for her school lunches
-> hn> in place of mayo or mustard...works great!
->  hn> It's easy to make...and I have a place where
->  hn> I can get dried garbanzo's so I may even try
