A couple of months after we moved here, we'd used up the wheat we
brought from GA.  We went down to Whole Foods Market to get some from
the bulk bins; we'd done it that way in GA, getting maybe 15-20 pounds
per trip.  A store employee was in the aisle, asked Steve if we'd found
everything we wanted.  At that point we'd barely begun our shopping; we
were getting the bulk bin stuff first.  Steve asked if there was an
unopened sack of wheat we could buy; the guy went to check and came out
with a 50 pound sack.  It was under $1.00/lb with the bulk discount but
I forget just how much we ended up paying.  That was in early July; we
still have a couple of 12 cup sacks (We sub divide and put in the
freezer to keep fresh.) left.  Each smaller sack will yield about 10
pounds of flour when ground.  I use it for all of my bread making and
(mixed with soft wheat flour) as an all purpose flour.   We buy the soft
wheat berries to grind into pastry type flour.  Unfortunately, we don't
know anyone who grows wheat and (we did some on line pricing) it would
cost as much, if not more, to mail order wheat berries.  But, we're
still eating better than we would if we were eatng white flour products
all the time. (G)
