I thought that all 1B were supposed to be lefties, but
that isn't so any more. The days of Keith Hernandez are
over:

 As teams emphasized long-ball offense in the late 1990s, 
 they started playing more righties at first. In 1998,
 39 percent of regulars were left-handed (including platoons);
 in 2002, the number dipped to 36 percent. Recently, the
 proportion of lefty first basemen has fallen below one-third
 and occasionally just above one-quarter. Among first basemen,
 three of the last four Gold Gloves in the American League
 and four of six Gold Gloves in the National League have gone

I'd say that there were more of them than there are of you,
but then that might not be true, and even so, what does that
say about the hated Yankees?

Thus it always is with the recruiters. When they did away
with the press gangs, extravagant false incentives have
had to be invented. Like 72 virgins in heaven, you know.

I figure that at best, the treatment they give you is
a 60/40 proposition, and a quintuple is 5 treatments.

Dark Keesh-ka (kiszka)
cat: sausage
makes: 12 to 14 lb

4 pig's feet, split
2 lb pig's snouts
1 lb pork steak
1 lg onion
4 whole black peppercorns
1 Tb salt
3 lb pork liver
5 lb coarse buckwheat grits
6 lg onions
1 Tb ground allspice
2 Tb ground marjoram
salt and pepper
1 pt fresh pig's blood

Cover with hot water the first six ingredients and cook until tender.
Scald liver, save the liquid from liver and add it to the pork stock.
Remove meat from bones and put through food grinder. Chop the 6 onions
and put into hot stock. Wash buckwheat grits and add to liquid. Cook
slowly for half hour. Add chopped meat and liver and rest of spices.
Salt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook slowly until the grits are
tender. If mixture becomes dry, add meat stock or water. Then grits
are tender. remove from fire and cool. Add blood and mix well. Stuff
into casing, tie at intervals to make sausages and cook slowly in
boiling water for 20 minutes. If you do not have casings, kiszka will
keep well in loaf pans. Serve either hot or cold. To heat, slice and
fry in butter or shortening until golden brown on both sides.
