====================================================================
Hi Ruth,

-> In my case, love seat. I do 99.99% of my computer work off of my little
-> EeePC. Steve got me a lap desk last month (I'd been using a clip board
-> as a computer "desk") which gives a bit, but not a whole lot more room.

 RH> I use a vintage 60s office chair with a wheelchair butt cushion added.
 RH> Works nicely. Then again my computer is a desktop.

And you have a big old house to rattle around in. Did you take over
your dad's office area?

-> Yes, but with areas of color. In the kitchen I've got a series of
-> German dish towels on one wall (using Command strip hooks, casings on
-> the towels and a thin slat on the hooks) printed with herbs, spices and
-> useage. On another wall in the kitchen I've got a similar set I got in
-> England. We've got various things hung in the different rooms so we
-> don't see all white.

 RH> Good idea. No nail holes to fill in and repaint either.

We've a few of those but figure to be here long enough that they will
want a repaint job done when we move. I'm not sure how long the
previous tenants were here; we took over their lease. They patched
holes and painted over the patchs before moving out, no major repaint
done.

-> RH> point to if they give you a hard time. She had to fight them to
->  RH> the scans done.

-> Yes, and I hope things are smoothing out in that regard for her. I
-> don't have VA benefits but have some good civilian doctors.

 RH> Sometimes VA benefits are more trouble than they're worth these days.

It may seem that way but not really. Every little bit helps.

-> RH> and way too warm for a real coat.

-> I grabbed my lined trench coat before going to church yesterday. Didn't
-> need it in mid day but by evening, the 2nd round of rain was coming thru
-> cooling temps down to the low 50s.

 RH> Down she says. It stayed in the 40s here today and I thought that was
 RH> relatively warm.

We're going back to the 40s tomorrow for a couple of days, with rain.
Time for more rib sticking meals. Seems I'm cooking a lot of those this
winter.

-> RH> Ooooh, yummy. Honey plus goat cheese and served warm... it's a

-> Yep! I wanted to get some beef soup bones but both places were sold
-> out. Guess I'll have to try next month.

 RH> Or make pork stock.... just kidding. Around here I have a regular
 RH> source of Kosher chicken soup bones; my regular supermarket has them
 RH> in the Kosher section. They often have beef bones there too.

I've got a bit of pork stock, about used up on the chicken and beef. I
can get some beef bones at Lowe's but they're the big things with not
much meat on them.

-> RH> I try to pay attention to both, but then my Dad did the same thing.

-> All depends on your upbringing and your interest in the world around

 RH> I was born with a curiosity bump that if it had mass would affect the
 RH> Earth's rotation.

Mine's not near that big.

-> RH> there. The rice might attract bugs or critters, while a synthetic
-> RH> won't. On the upside, it was half price.

-> Half price helps. As long as they have the electricity to run the
-> microwave to heat the thing.

 RH> They have a microwave and some sort of high speed internet connection.
 RH> The power goes out sometimes, but I guess other than in hurricanes
 RH> it's not a big deal.  Those aren't horrible either, where they are;
 RH> it's in the middle of the island up a mountain.

As long as they can make contact with the outside world from time to
time, things can't be too bad. Having a way to order groceries that
can't be grown/hunted/etc helps. (G)

-> RH> cardigans might work too, but not the nubby ones. I generally wash
-> RH> the cashmere in hot water and throw them in the dryer to pre-shrink

-> Most all of my fabric gets the washer/dryer treatment when I bring it
-> home. Then too, most of what I bring home is cotton type.

 RH> For quilting stuff, sure. If you do with with wool or animal fiber it
 RH> makes life much easier when it comes to cutting and stitching.

I've done some work with wool & wool blends but not in a long time.
Some were dry clean only so they stayed out of the washer.

-> No, not one with a no pets clause in the lease.

 RH> There is that. Is there a rule against feeding strays?

No strays around here that I know of.

-> RH> salsa and sour cream. And here I was worried about
 RH> leftovers...hah.

-> Sounds like a group of mostly young folks who will eat anything set in
-> front of them.

 RH> One week it was teenagers, but the cheesecake crowd was mostly 40s and

An age group that appreciates cheesecake but needs to watch the
cholesterol.

-> Reading, writing.............oh, sorry, those are for grades, not time
-> wasters. OTOH, some would consider Fido to be one. It's my link to the
-> outside world. (G)

 RH> Talking. Grocery shopping, cooking.... I contemplated taking
 RH> advantage of the 8 for $8 deal on Smart Ones frozen meals this week.
 RH> Then I thought... what if they're as inedible as most of that stuff

Sounds like something to leave on the shelf. Check the nutrition
labels; they're probably super high in sodium, bad fats, etc.

Catch you later,
