===========
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> Works nicely. Then again my computer is a desktop.

-> And you have a big old house to rattle around in. Did you take over
-> your dad's office area?

 RH> Big? Try 1960 ranch house. It's not all that big, and this spot has
 RH> always been more my office than it ever was his.

Bigger than what we have; you have a basement and attic. We've got
about 1000sf on one level.

-> RH> Good idea. No nail holes to fill in and repaint either.

-> We've a few of those but figure to be here long enough that they will
-> want a repaint job done when we move. I'm not sure how long the
-> previous tenants were here; we took over their lease. They patched
-> holes and painted over the patchs before moving out, no major repaint

 RH> Just as well. It will have to be done eventually, but we hope not on
 RH> your dime.

Hopefully not. We're trying to keep things as good or better than when
we moved in condition. We replaced the stove drip pans but cleaned up
the old (probably new, but on when we moved in) to put on the stove
before we move out. That, and a bunch of other small improvement stuff.

-> RH> Sometimes VA benefits are more trouble than they're worth these
 RH> days.
-> It may seem that way but not really. Every little bit helps.

 RH> If you can access it.

Steve can, even gets paid for travel to the hospital in Durham.

-> RH> Down she says. It stayed in the 40s here today and I thought that

-> We're going back to the 40s tomorrow for a couple of days, with rain.
-> Time for more rib sticking meals. Seems I'm cooking a lot of those this

 RH> That's why God invented crock pots.

It'll be used tomorrow for some bbq beef ribs.

-> RH> Or make pork stock.... just kidding. Around here I have a regular

-> I've got a bit of pork stock, about used up on the chicken and beef. I
-> can get some beef bones at Lowe's but they're the big things with not

 RH> As long as they have lots of marrow, who cares?

I want a bit more meat than what these have.

-> RH> They have a microwave and some sort of high speed internet
 RH> connection.
-> RH> The power goes out sometimes, but I guess other than in hurricanes
->  RH> it's not a big deal.  Those aren't horrible either, where they are;
-> RH> it's in the middle of the island up a mountain.

-> As long as they can make contact with the outside world from time to
-> time, things can't be too bad. Having a way to order groceries that
-> can't be grown/hunted/etc helps. (G)

 RH> Too true. We're sending down nuts and dried fruit; apparently they
 RH> can't get those. Fresh mangoes and papaya however more than make up
 RH> for the lack, I think.

Yes, we enjoyed them in HI and bemoan the lack thereof on the mainland.
(G)

-> I've done some work with wool & wool blends but not in a long time.
-> Some were dry clean only so they stayed out of the washer.

 RH> That's only if you don't want it to shrink.

I don't want a skirt or jacket that has hours of work in it to shrink; I
want to wear it! Same with the full length lined wool cape I made about
35 years ago.

-> -> No, not one with a no pets clause in the lease.

-> RH> There is that. Is there a rule against feeding strays?

-> No strays around here that I know of.

 RH> Darn.

Cats, that is. I can always find a stray college or seminary student,
especially at church.

-> RH> One week it was teenagers, but the cheesecake crowd was mostly 40s

-> An age group that appreciates cheesecake but needs to watch the
-> cholesterol.

 RH> Seems to be true.  It's a grown-up food.

Yes, and I have to watch LDLs so I can't have too much of it. I miss
the ones we had in Germany; they weren't quite as sweet but they were
really good.

-> RH> Talking. Grocery shopping, cooking.... I contemplated taking
-> RH> advantage of the 8 for $8 deal on Smart Ones frozen meals this
-> RH> Then I thought... what if they're as inedible as most of that stuff

-> Sounds like something to leave on the shelf. Check the nutrition
-> labels; they're probably super high in sodium, bad fats, etc.

 RH> They're made for Weight Watchers so the fat and calorie counts can't
 RH> be bad. The sodium on the other hand may well be far over the line.
 RH> I didn't bother with the stuff so never checked.

I'd pick it up to look at how horrendous the levels of various things
were; then I'd put it right back where it came from and walk off,
shuddering.

Catch you later,
