=====================
Aloha Ruth!
->
-> -> I stayed in, Steve took the chili but didn't stay for the judging.
-> -> Afterward, the pastor let us know it came in second--very close to
the
-> -> winner--out of (he thought) about 10.
->
-> HN> You'd have probably won if you'd been there!
->
-> Could be; I could have done a last minute tweak on the spicing. Still,
-> 2nd isn't bad and I know my chili is well liked among the church family.
-> I made a big pot of it in October for a Wed. night supper on a raw,
-> blustery day & got rave reviews then
->
I'm not surprised!
EVERYONE loves Chili!!
->
-> HN> (grin) Hope you feel better now though!
->
-> Working on it, have a couple of perscriptions to go thru. One is a 6
-> day steriod burst, the other is 2 weeks of a Cipro-related antibiotic.
-> Steve doesn't mind eating out of the freezer & pantry but by next week
-> at this time I should be back to cooking instead of nuking. (G)
->
Cipro is pretty hefty stuff. hope you
don't get side effects.
And hope it works as well!

-> -> hn> today for the rest of the week, freezer
-> -> hn> is empty at this point. but Anne wanted
-> -> hn> to get out of the house so we're at a
-> -> hn> local coffee spot doing wifi.
->
-> -> So you're doing Fido Cooking and hope that somebody will say
something
-> -> to give you an idea of what to make. Madness to your method.
->
-> HN> Ended up making a lentil sausage
->  HN> dish, yummy!
->
-> Sounds like it would have been really good for this kind of weather.
-> Did you use a recipe "straight" or just as a suggestion? (G)
->
Basically looked in the pantry for
whatever jumped up and said
"COOK ME!!" had some mild
Italian sausage from a sale
so that and the lentils won
date with the stove!

-> -> area just before my sophomore year of high school but still weren't
very
-> -> large. I do remember the cafeteria serving what they called "corned
-> -> beef hash" but it was given the nickname "Alpo" by students. (G)
->
-> HN> At least ALPO was all meat(Grin)
->
-> I don't think this was. Probably not, knowing school budgets.
->
-> HN> I always took lunch so very seldom
-> HN> got to eat what the cafeteria put
->  HN> out.
->
-> Same here, except senior year my folks let us buy more often. Finaly, a
-> reprieve from pb&j!
->
Baloney for me!

-> -> I understand another storm is moving in tomorrow too. Hopefully it
won't
-> -> hit my parents in upstate NY--had a call about 5pm from my mom that
my
-> -> dad (88) fell and broke his hip. He was transferred to a hospital an
-> -> hour away & she doesn't drive. No further details so we've got a lot
of
-> -> questions, waiting for answers.
->
-> HN> YIPES! Is there someone nearby who
-> HN> can do things for your mom, like
-> HN> take her to appts and grocery
-> HN> shopping and such? Hope any news
-> HN> you get is good news!!
->
-> Dad had an artificial hip put in yesterday, will be in that hosptial a
-> few days, then transferred to the hospital/rehab in the town where they
-> live. My younger brother lives across the street (but works a good bit
-> away). He's working from home today & tomorrow because of the storm.
-> Steve and I have been e-mailing him (and my other siblings) trying to
-> get a feel for what can be done, both short term and longer term
-> modifications to the house to handle this and future situations. We
-> have some ideas that make sense to us; it's getting my siblings feed
-> back that we need. Sigh!
->
The folks I know who've had
artificial hips put in have
all done well. Hope your dad
does well too! Siblings giving
feedback sometimes works sometimes not
(grin).

-> There are other people in the area that have worked for them or have
-> watched out for my parents over the years that are helping to some
-> extent now. One gave my mom a ride into town yesterday to pick up a few
-> groceries ahead of the storm--things like bread and milk. We're
-> debating if we ought to try to get up over the seminary's mid term break
-> (early March) or Easter break (late March into early April); right now
-> sort of holding back until we see how things work out up there & Steve's
-> school work load--some of the professors give work over breaks.
->
WEll it looks like they have a
support network in place so
that's good news!

chat with you soon!
