Sounds like a good idea. My parents won't be building any more homes,
nor probably buying any.  We just talked to my dad; he's been moved to a
rehab hospital.  He will be very limited on gong up/down stairs,
bending, all sorts of things so he (and Mom) will need extra help to
stay in the house.  We're probably going to go up at the end of March
(Easter break) for a quick visit/see what we can do to modify things
without tearing up a lot.  This summer is my parent's 60th anniversary;
we'd been planning a small celebration, mostly family, for them.  Part
of the time that we'd be up there for that (along with my siblings), we
were going to have a meeting to see what needed to be done for long term
taking care of them.  Some plans will probably be moved forward now.

Last year, our girls got their grandparents a dishwasher.  That is now a
big help in the kitchen clean up.  It's a relatively small kitchen so
they don't have to move around a lot for most tasks but some changing
around could be done to make things easier.  That's something else to
deal with, as well as going thru cabinets, the pantry, etc to see if
they've got any 30 year old boxes of cereal or whatever (besides Mom's
bottle of Tabasco sauce that she uses less than a teaspoon per year
from).
