=============================
-=> Quoting Jim Weller to Glen Jamieson <=-

JW> we survive on pork shoulder, sauerkraut, potatoes, turnips and pork
 JW> bone pea soup.
 GJ> And moose face!

 JW> Yep, that too.

In your family situation everyone would find that acceptable.
Unfortunately I have some fuss-pots around here who are suspicious of
what I cook. Don't like hare, tongue, brains, liver, balut, etc!

JW> I also have a moose spine cut into sections small enough to fit my
JW> stock pot to play with too.

So you are sure you don't have any Mad Moose Disease? There has been
a bit of fuss by local cattlemen here recently on hearing the
government would allow beef to be imported into Australia from Mad Cow
infected American countries.

GJ> Hopefully you will sell 2 houses, and so build up a
 GJ> reserve.

JW> Hopefully I'll sell four a month from now until October. It is time
JW> to re-stock my wine cabinet.

That appears to be a high rate of house turnover, considering the size
of YK. I noted your comment to Dale about YK house sales people.

GJ> I see in our financial reports that house prices here have
GJ> been continuing to increase at about the same rate that they have been
GJ> falling in USA. What are they doing in Canukstan?
JW> We had a dip from Oct 2008 to April 2009, mostly out of fear that
JW> the global recession would hit us too. It didn't. But for a half
JW> year prices dropped 6% and volume was off 25% with my own income
JW> down 50% because I do a lot of commercial which ground to a complete
 JW> halt.
JW> Some parts of Canada dependant on export sales to the US took a
JW> severe hit, mainly industrial southern Ontario (cars and parts) and
JW> the interior of B.C. (forestry and lumber).

Global warming should be good for your country, allowing it to enjoy a
more human-friendly climate. You may be able to export your wine to
the tropical jungle or desert country south of your border.

JW> three tips on preparing yellow turnips
 GJ> _Now_ you tell me!
 JW> I just learned myself.
GJ> roasted them in the oven (then) peeled them.

JW> Try peeling first, cubing, soaking in slightly sweet and salty water
JW> for an hour or more or par boil 4-5 minutes. Then roast, steam, boil
JW> and possibly mash as you see fit.

I still have 1 or 2 left, so will try that.

GJ> BTW, do you know what a "Dutch Wife" is?
JW> I do and it is very rude!

JW> (A Dutch wife is a blow up sex doll.)

Not in my dictionary or experience! When staying in cheap,
non-airconditioned hotels in SE Asia, the beds are commonly provided
with those soft, unresponsive bolsters to ease sweating. They have
been in existance for many years, long before your sex dolls. The
name probably was first applied during or soon after the period of
Dutch imperialism in the region. The last time I used ome was several
years ago, while working in Sumatra. With a slow ceiling fan moving
the air, it made for comfortable sleeping.
