The nearest White Castle to you is going to be in New Jersey. Nearest to me is
in Collinsville, IL - about 90 minutes south of here in the St Louis "Metro
East" area.

Never had the chicken rings ... and probably won't. But, White Castle Burgers
are the ORIGINAL sliders. That's where the name came from - "Belly Bombers",
too. I have eaten and enjoyed sliders for some time. They are most definitely
NOT health food. But, since they are tiny (served on a dinner roll sized bun) a
guy with a sizable mouth can do a slider in one bite -- two at most. 

When I was trucking up to Michigan I used to do White Castles at Michigan and
Vermont in the shadow of Briggs Stadium (more or less). Standard bags were 10
sliders or 8 sliders w/cheese. Just barely too much for one person and not
quite enough for two appetites.

The patties of burger (if you can call that tiny scalloped thing with the holes
in it a patty) are "steam grilled" on top of a bed of rehydrated onions and are
not flipped during the cooking process. The process is patented - and is,
AFAIK, unique among fast food chains.

Are there any Krystal burger-snatchers in your area. Their web site shows a
presence in VA, MD, etc. but it is painful to try and get exact locations from.
The Krystal burger is a sort-of clone of a White Castle. But, they can't call
it a "Slyder" as that is a registered trade mark of White Castle.

      Title: Sliders - White Castle Style
 Categories: Sandwiches, Beef, Breads
      Yield: 36 servings
 
      2 lb Ground beef; in 36 balls
    1/4 c  Dry minced onion
    1/4 c  Hot water
      3 oz Jar strained beef baby food
    2/3 c  Clear beef broth
      3    Dozen dinner rolls
 
  Soak 1/4 cup dry minced onions in 1/4 cup hot water until
  soft while you mix 2 pounds ground beef with 3 ounce jar of
  strained beef baby food and 2/3 cup clear beef broth. 

  Keep patties uniform using 1/4 cup meat mixture for each
  patty, flattened thinly and fried quickly in 1 T oil per
  patty on a hot griddle. 

  Make 3 or 4 holes in patties while frying. 

  Fry 1 t onions under each patty as you turn to fry 2nd side.
  Slip each patty into bun with 2 dill pickle chips, mustard
  and catsup.
