=====================
Hi Michael,

RH> The label also says it's "organic, fair trade & kosher certified, not
ML> Yeah, but the important thing is how does it taste?
RH> Like molasses! (G) Nice and rich, full of goodness.

ML> Sometimes I like molasses goodness, but mostly seriously
ML> diluted and/or combined with strong spices, as in cookies.

That's one of my favorite ways to consume it. The other is in
gingerbread.

 RH> We went to Qdoba's (a
RH> Mexican chain, similar to Moe's Southwestern Grill or Chipotle's)

ML> I don't recall going to any of these. I've been to a Baja Fresh
ML> - not too thrilling, though the salsa bar was nice (I ended up
ML> drinking I believe the medium salsa like gazpacho).

We've not been to that, not seen any in our area. We'd tried Moe's in
Savannah; I wasn't too thrilled with it. Rachel took us to a Chiptle's
in Las Vegas--better than Moe's but still not that great. Qdoba's at
least seemed to be less of a stainless steel decor than Chipotle's and
more "cozy" than Moe's. All three places go heavy on the rice and
beans; I asked for mine without beans, Steve's was without rice. I liked
the verde salsa; it had just enough heat for me that it didn't overpower
all the rest of the food.

ML> called Inkas' Empire, run by and for Peruvians. When we
ML> arrived, everyone else in the joint was in fact Peruvian,
ML> including our waitress, who smiled a lot at me and was
 ML> totally adorable. Anyhow.
RH> Sounds interesting; I've not encountered any Peruvian places before.

ML> Peruvian places seem to crop up where there's been Peruvian
ML> immigration, oddly enough. It's not as though Joe Restaurateur
ML> is going to say, potatoes and yuca, the next hot cuisine trend.

I've not noticed any huge Peruvian group in the greater Triangle
(Raleigh, Durhan, Chapel Hill) area but we're not actively exploring it
either. We go to Durham if Steve has a VA appointment, Chapel Hill if
I've got a pulmonology or mammogram/oncology appointment. Yes, both of
them have cultural events we can go to but we don't even get to any in
Raleigh. Time, location, date and school work are the biggest strikes,
other than most of them being of no real interest to us.

ML> I ordered fried yuca for starters
RH> I'd have gone for the yucca too (not yucca dew, remember that?); the
RH> idea of fries for a starter,

ML> I don't remember. By the way, though in some parts of South
ML> America yucca is spelled yuca or yuca is spelled yucca, the
ML> standard is yuca = the tuber, yucca = the cactus-like thing.
ML> I would imagine yucca dew was from the latter. By the other

I'd never known that; I only knew of the cactus like thing as yucca.
And, yes, Yucca Dew was from that; it was a shampoo in the mid 70s that
used yucca juice in it. Pretty good, as I recall. There was a home in
Swansboro (NC) that had a yucca plant in the yard; I remember seeing it
from the kitchen window of our first apartment.

ML> way, you're in good company when confounding the two. Other
ML> great thinkers who have done so are Linnaeus and me.

Great minds run in similar......................

ML> or even with the entree give me the
RH> shudders. BTW, Qdoba's has several (6 or 7 I think) salsas to choose
RH> from; the salsa verde was a nice tingly medium hot. Steve had the hot
RH> but not habenero hot; we both had good sized grilled chicken burritos,
RH> more on the size of burros actually.

ML> Sounds just like the Baja Fresh.

Probably just another variation, different part of the country.

Catch you later,
Ruth
