Ärende: RE: Bball & bobberQ 929
===============================
Hey Michael!

-> HN> End of April looks open, M's are on the road
-> HN> from 22-29 starting a home stand against the
-> HN> Rangers on the 30th. So at this point things
-> HN> look good! Let me know what dates you're
-> HN> planning and it should be a go.
->
-> I see that I am expected to do another Q thing with
-> Lilli the end of April, but before that, there's this
-> homestand that has the Orioles, which I might be
-> interested in if you were free. Though I may not be
-> able to swing them, I also covet the July Yankees and
-> Sox series, even if tix may be at a premium for those.
->
The April series might be problematic only
because Anne will still be in school and I
don't know what her physical condition
will be. The Yanks will only be in town
for the one series so those tix will be
at an extreme premium.The BoSox
series will be good, but it will be a
big premium as well. Boston will only
be here twice this season, and those
games are ALWAYS a premium.

-> -> Back in the old days, doing that kind of work would
-> -> disqualify one. Now, who cares.
->  HN> I don't think working in a ski shop would
-> HN> be a disqualifying factor. That would be like
-> HN> disqualifying someone from biathalon if he
->  HN> worked in a gun store.
->
-> Back in days of draconian Avery Brundage and before, Olympians
-> were expected essentially not to work at all, though if one did,
-> and it wasn't in a sports-related profession, one could be forgiven.
-> The type case is Jim Thorpe, who was improperly divested of his
-> track and field medals because he had played baseball for $2 a
-> game when he was a student. Then there's the case of Karl Schranz,
-> who committed the awful crime of allowing his picture to be used
-> in advertising, for which he was banned from the 1972 Olympics.
->
In Thorpe's case he was considered a
"proffessional Athelete" because he took pay
to play a sport. If he had worked at a shoe store
selling runners shoes he might not have been
subject to being banned. However I'm not
sure as I have not been able to see a
clear write up as to what was permitted and
what was an infringement.

-> I think the ski shop would have been ample cause for
-> disqualification in those days, and working in a gun store might
-> well have been.
->
->  -> Absolut Green Monstah
-> -> [Absolut Boston is a green tea and elderberry flavored vodka -
-> -> what this has to do with Boston I don't know]
-> HN> What? Haven't you heard of the Boston TEA PaRTY??
->
-> And our breath smells of elderberries?
->
You been reading Python again? (grin)
->
->  HN> Oh what a Q-stravaganza!! I am jealous,
-> HN> but thankfully thinner than I would be if
->  HN> I had been there!! I fear I might have
->  HN> burst myself (grin)!
->
-> I didn't gain any weight to speak of: my closing hospital
-> weight was 164, and at the end of Q-fest it was 166, but
-> that could easily have been from the fluid intake.
->
You did much better than I would have
I fear! Although in Texas they rely too
much on brisket and not enough on pork.

->  HN> Thanks for the report...although I think
-> HN> I mentioned something similar to this last
-> HN> year and you pointed out that you'd not
-> HN> return to Texas even for great Q.....(grin)
->
-> Texas isn't my favorite place, though it's the Rangers I
-> hate more than Texas itself. I did grace Houston with my
-> presence last year, perhaps against my better judgment, and
-> the people's republic of Austin doesn't count.
->
Texas is not high on my list of favorite
haunts either, but my aversion is
pale in comparison to yours. And while
I'll concede that Austin is almost
wacky enough to not be Texas, it's
the dang capitol and a gathering
place for the worst of all things
texas politicians!

-> Red pepper and cilantro sauce for Texas shrimp
-> cat: starter
-> servings: 4 to 6
->
-> 2 red Bell peppers
-> 1 lime, juice of
-> 1/2 c ketchup
-> 3 guajillo chiles, soaked in water to soften
-> 1/4 c finely chopped white onion
-> 1/4 c coarsely chopped cilantro
-> 1 1/2 lb 21-25 ct Texas shrimp
-> - peeled, deveined
-> salt
->
-> Roast, peel, and seed peppers. Blend peppers with
-> ketchup, lime juice, and chiles. Add onion and cilantro.
->
-> Boil shrimp with a small amount of salt, cooking 1-2 min
-> or until water returns to a boil after adding shrimp.
-> Drain and chill. Serve with sauce.
->
-> David Garrido, Jeffrey's Restaurant, Austin TX
->
Looks pretty good! I'd probably
use more lime juice and maybe
half ketchup and half sriracha.
chat with you soon!
