Ärende: Growing potatoes
========================
Hi Dale,

RH> I've never tried making them. I used cloth diapers 95% (rest of the
RH> time, disposables--usually for travel) of the time with our girls. I
RH> got the prefolded ones; it saved a bit of time each time I washedthem,
RH> not having to do quite so much folding. I've seen some patterns for
RH> home made but Rachel has gone the 100% disposable route with her two.
 RH> Sigh!

DS> We used cloth diapers also, except for travel. Really added to the
DS> wash load, but worked just fine. Plus, after the kids no longer

My parents bought us a washer when I was expecting Rachel. That made it
really handy for washing diapers. We bought a dryer but at that time, I
used it only in the winter or rainy weather. I still like the smell of
sun dried things but it doesn't do my health any good to breath all the
pollen and such like they would acquire.

 DS> needed
DS> them, they made really great furniture polishing rags around the
 DS> house.

Also good for polishing boots in the days of the black Army boots.
Steve went active duty about the time Deborah was getting out of diapers
so I kept the best ones for his use, tossed out the worst when she no
longer needed any.

DS> I thought of you today. We were checking out another Indian store
DS> that we only just heard about. It is not far from the one we've often
 DS> gone
DS> to in Columbia. They had bags of whole wheat. Reminded me of how
DS> you guys grind your own flour from wheat grains.

It does make some good tasting bread. Maybe I'll bring a couple of
loaves up to VA and trade for a bag or 2 of rice cakes. (G) I made
bread last Thursday; the 2nd time using the new batch of wheat we got
this spring. Steve said he thought he ground it at the same setting as
the wheat we were using but it seemed to be a bit of a finer grind.
There was a flour "dust" on my KA head I'd not seen other times.

DS> They also had a number of flours made from lentils.

I believe we can grind lentils too. I know we can grind popcorn to make
our own corn meal but haven't tried it yet.

DS> Here is a recipe that sounded like you might like -- the ingredient
DS> amount on the first line has got to be wrong though. My best guess is
DS> that it should be 2 pounds versus 21 pounds. I had to correct a
DS> number of spelling errors in the text also -- so be careful with it
DS> and use your judgement if you make it.

 DS> MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

DS> Title: Barrah Kabab / Marinaded Lamb Chops
 DS> Categories: Lamb, Indian, Appetizer
 DS> Yield: 6 servings

DS> 21 lb Lamb shoulder chops

I do believe you're right on that amount. Probably translated by
someone who's first language is not English. It looks good; I'll save
it and give it a try.

We cooked for our small group at church today (actually, I did the
cooking yesterday, just reheated today). Sloppy Joes that were half
ground beef (80% lean), half ground turkey (93% lean) with lots of
chopped up bell peppers, onion and crushed tomato. Some chili powder,
corriander and (blanking out on the other spice). We also did a green
salad (boxed greens with add ins of carrots, cucumber & tomato), home
made Italian & 1000 Island dressings and a 7 layer dessert. That one
evaporated! I barely got any; Steve had mentioned to one man about him
taking a bit home for his wife--there was just a small amount. Had I
known, I would have set aside a bigger piece before anyone else lit into
it. Anyway, a bit of disappointment from one young man that we didn't do
kalua pork again but he got over it fast when he tried the sloppy joes.
I believe he went back for seconds. (G)
