=============
Hi Hap,

 hn> Happy Cinco de mayo Ruth!

Happy Siete de Mayo Hap! (G)

-> Those are nice. We gave away a good amount of the sloppy joe mix and
-> still brought home a quart for the freezer & 3 servings (lunch for both
-> of us yesterday & me today). The quart we froze will provide a couple
-> of easy meals worth.

 hn> Sloppy Joes are a comfort food with me, on
 hn> cheap buns or white bread! YUM!

We bought both a better grade of white and some wheat for our church
group. None came back with us. The left over we had at home as on rice
or regular bread, will probably use the latter when I pull the one box
out of the freezer.

-> -> That'll work. Ever think about getting a small freezer?

-> hn> Thought about it...and would have no place to
-> hn> put one! (sigh) Used to have a 26 cu foot one
-> hn> but that was before we got a dining room table!

-> So get one you can tuck under one end of the table. (G)

 hn> No can do, it's to two sets of three footed
 hn> pedestal feet so not much room under there!

You probably have some bit of room somewhere for a small freezer. We
had our first one (18 cu ft) out on a back porch that Steve built onto
the first place we lived when we bought it. Second place we had it
inside, then sold it to my brother. In HI, we had the 10 cu ft one on
the lanai, left it with a co worker of Steve's. The 7.5 cu ft one we
got in GA was originally in the garage, now it's in our kitchen. All
have been chest models.

-> hn> Today when I went to the store they had a
->  hn> sale on chicken thighs...88cents a pound, so
-> hn> I grabbed a good sized pack and made
-> hn> chicken stew for dinner...came out GREAT!
-> hn> and enough for three more meals!

-> Not bad. We went to The Cheesecake Factory last night for supper.
-> Split an appetiser order of calamari; probably the best we've had since
-> we were in Monterey. Then we each had a pizzetta; basically a flat
-> bread with toppings. Steve had cheese, garlic, mushroom & shallott; I
-> had cheese, shitaki mushroom, bacon and asparagus. He took home a
 hn> piece
-> of chocolate/coconut cheesecake; I did likewise with a Godiva chocolate
-> chocolate one. RICH! A bit on the pricy side but huge sized portions
-> (from what I saw of the entrees) and just about melt in your mouth
-> calamari.

 hn> There's a Cheesecake Factory in Seattle that we
 hn> visit maybe once or twice a year...big portions seem
 hn> to be the rule there! Everyone leaves with a box
 hn> for home! Come to think of it, I don't think we ever
 hn> made it there in 2009! Lots of carbs on that menu!

This was our first, but not last visit. Yes, there looked to be lots of
carbs, especially in the cheesecake listings. But that calamari was
worth every bite!

-> A lot of times I'll do just the mixed greens and tomatoes, every so
-> often I'll go all out and add bunches more. Depends on what's in the
-> fridge, my ambition level, what we're having besides the salad at that
-> meal, etc, etc.

 hn> We get bags of bacon bits from Costco, they are
 hn> really great in a lot of dishes, so I try to keep several
 hn> bags on hand. Grated Parmesan, cherry tomatoes, cukes
 hn> are all good additions to a salad as well! When we have
 hn> it on hand blue cheese crumbles, feta cheese, black olives,
 hn> and even capers will find their way into the salad bowl!

 hn> Salad's don't have to be boring!

No, they don't. Steve still isn't too heavy into pork so we don't keep
too much bacon on hand. He did enjoy the bacon I got last time I went
to Whole Foods Market; maybe I should pick up several packages next
time. Then, too, he's got to watch the cholesterol so maybe one package
is enough. He's not a black olive fan so they only go into mine if we
have any. Cukes, tomatoes, carrots, sometimes celery and lots of greens
are the usual basics here.

Catch you later,
Ruth
