=============
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> I once waded through a late 50s book on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dead

-> OTOH, I'd be interested in it if it weren't too heavy into the "dead"
-> parts--you know, the ones that even a sea couldn't dampen. We did go to

 RH> No such luck with this one; it was just dead boring.

Probably started as an article for some archeology journal, then
expanded into a book. Journal articles are usually pretty dry.

-> such a rugged area that hunting for them would be a major undertaking.
-> Did you know they've found parts of all the OT books except Esther-and
-> some books are rather complete?

 RH> I thought Isaiah was completely intact.

I'm 99.99% sure it is. It's also suggested that John the Baptist lived
and worked with the Essenes for some time. Probably before his diet of
locusts and wild honey stage; very little vegetation in that part of the
country.

-> That way people could stop and shop. (G)

 RH> Just not at Stop&Shop. (G)

Why not--might reach some people that way you wouldn't by other methods.

-> RH> Even so, I'd have put it on Ebay. I do have a velvet one here from
->  RH> collects ... and it's brown.

-> Hmmmmmmm, brown, velvet--sounds like something I'd grab and recycle into
-> a jacket or skirt. Are you sure it's saying "quilt"?

 RH> I'm not sure what it's saying, but it's one of those short dresses
 RH> with the boatneck - early 60s stuff.

Might be eough fabric in it for a jacket then. Depends on how full and
how long the skirt is.

-> RH> Better still, no more international weight limits to get in your

-> It wasn't international weight limits but military--based on pay grade.
-> In some ways, a bit inequitable since the younger, junior enlisted tend
-> to have the babies and litle kids that need more "paraphenalia" like
-> high chairs, changing tables, etc. We had a lot of stuff at my parent's
-> couple of years later. I stored things like a 10" cast iron fry pan
-> because I had another 10", non cast iron one that went with my basic
-> cookware set. But when we went to HI, we put nothing into storage, even
-> added some things over there like a cast iron dutch oven.

 RH> That's weird; the young kids who need the "stuff" don't get the weight
 RH> allowance, while you old guys did.

We had the time of low weight allowance too. Just no high chairs,
cribs, or other baby stuff to deal with as Deborah was almost 3 and
Rachel was 4 1/2 when Steve went in. We didn't have the weight allowance
of officers--much more than ours, especially in the higher ranks. But,
we made it thru pretty well, all things considered.

-> RH> I doubt I'd go to either. Pressure changes and I don't get along
 RH> too
->  RH> well any more.

-> And you don't fel like driving out there (or Amtraking) just to try
-> either the Mexican place or any other one. We had calamari for the
-> first time in a cannery converted to a family restaurant and
-> entertainment area.

 RH> Sounds like fun. I could get behind the Amtrak trip, if the Eastern
 RH> trains were better.

So how far west would you have to go to get a decent train? I know one
western train runs a southern route that roughly parallels I-10; you
would get some gorgeous scenery on that one.

Catch you later,
Ruth
