====================
Hi Carol,

 > Gives you a chance to check out some new to you places in getting ready
 > for us.(G)

 CS> Yup!

I presume Don will be joining our outings; does he have any suggestions
you might not have thought of?

 CS> Rather enjoyed Smackwater Jacks!

CS> But, smackwaters is too smokey for the group. Just sent in a

Thanks. I want to be able to enjoy the week end, not be suffering the
effects of a smokey supper. The weather here has been cool (upper 60s,
low 70s) the last few days; after days in the low 90s, my lungs are
doing the "what's going on here?" reaction, IOW, grabbing the albuterol
off and on.

CS> reservation though for a really good local spot. check:
 CS> www.eltacolocova.com

CS> Went for Friday night, 6pm with backup if booked for Sat 6PM. I
CS> told'em to have the full rack of Mexican ribs ready (split for
CS> appetizers). Then folks can order off the menu as desired.

I've not lookedat the web site yet but Mexican is always good.

CS> The food's good and they have a bit of everything there. Steve can
CS> avoid pork easily with no loss at all (other than the pork ribs!). I
CS> can avoid cilantro, while others can have it to hearts content. The
CS> soups are unique and good. Non-smoking and not a dim lit dingy spot
 CS> to bother Michaels eyes.

Steve is eating more pork now but still avoiding the cilantro. I eat a
little bit of it but reach a point where I'll start pulling it out of y
food. The way the weather has been, soup sounds good. Non smoking is
always good; Michael will appreciate being able to see what he's eating.
(G)

CS> Very easy to find from my place. About 1.5 miles. Family owned and
 CS> operated. 100% positive reviews.

Family owned & operated is always good with restaurants. As long as you
don't have a German family trying to do Philippino (for example) tho;
those places would probably be pretty bad.

 > CS> Looking more for 'memorable' since last fest was seafood!
 CS> >
 > Memorable is the company. Food is incidentaal for the most part. Just
 > so that it's not memorable for being bad.

CS> Hehe same here. Well the Latino place closed. Am told they did so
CS> well, they have moved to a larger place but won't be open there in
 CS> time for us.

Sigh! There's probably enough other places in the area that you can
find something for us to eat. (G)

 > You'll have to explain that one. What is a j/a sandwich?

CS> Jackass Samwich can't be described. Has to be experienced. For one
CS> thing, th e 2 halves arent the same. Think of a lot of meat and
CS> 'stuff' and hard to say what, maybe bacon, prosicutto, corned beef,
CS> veggies, pretty sure has cheese and hard to say other than just darn
CS> good. We'll check the work schedule of our favorite cook and go when
CS> he's on duty. He works weekends. Estimate 1.5 miles again from my
CS> house (different direction). May have to go in mid-afternoon if they
CS> have a poker game or pool night event.

OK, it sounds like quite the experience. Have to make sure Steve has
the camera batteries well charged as I'm sure he will want lots of
pictures of it.

CS> Virginians are possibly an odd bunch. Almost all *good* food places
CS> come associated with a bar, even if just mixed drinks you can order
CS> like El Taco Loco. Don't worry, they all have sodas and such as well
 CS> (grin).

Give me a Diet Coke (not pepsi) or sweet tea and I'm happy.

CS> Now to finish cleaning up my grungy house (;-)

As I've got to get busy on mine, now that the semester is winding down.
We'll be able to clear the school books off the coffee table in a couple
of weeks. Lots of papers to go over, decide if they should be kept or
go into recycle. That sort of stuff.

Catch you later,
Ruth
