Ärende: Dog gone, Kitchen Aid
=============================
Hi Janis,

Working on several projects at once, as usual. Catching up on Fido is
just part of it; I think this packet will take several days to go thru.
(G)

>> short legs, but he's a pretty well packed guy :) )

JK> > Short but strong legs on that dog.

 JK> Yes, he's a muscle man (g).

..............able to leap tall buildings at a single bound!

>> We inititially did it to keep the kitties from going under the bed and
>> tearing up the fabric on the box springs.. turned out to be a good
>> idea all around :)

JK> > Yes, because it's hard seeing the damage kitties can do to box

JK> Most certainly.. The kittens started attacking it right away after we
JK> got them. Not sure if they were the first ones to "start it" so to
JK> speak, or if one of our earlier kitties had done that.. but we could
JK> hear them having quite a time down there until we decided to do
 JK> something about it (g).

With 4 of them, it's probably a case of what one doesn't think of,
another one will. (G) Be glad they haven't figured out how to open the
fridge yet.

>> Is he neutered? Sometimes the wandering issue is solved if dog is

JK> > He was a rescue dog; neutering was included in the adoption process.

 JK> Ah well..

Hopefully my folks can get him inside before serious thunder starts this
summer. If they can, it's less of a problem.

>> Midnight was really a big girl, and she'd lay on the top of the gate
>> so the two of them could jump over it.. Normally, I'd call them to
>> NY, we spent the $$ on the fence you saw here at the picnic..
>> chain-link.. quite a bit tougher than the one the owner had put up in

JK> > Harder for the dog to even think about getting out. (G)

JK> So far (g).. We're watching Indy because that boy can jump and climb
JK> over things like we can't believe. Forget the child-proof gates.. he
JK> climbs them and all of a sudden I hear kitties yelling :)

Need some taller gates there to keep the kitties happy. That, or they
need to make friends with him.

>> they'd built in NY.. that was sad. She was pretty upset. Her
>> dishwasher, double-ovens, range etc. were all KA and all had

JK> > That was a very reliable name in kitchen appliances too; I'd be
JK> quite > put out over it.

JK> She sure was. I'd been thinking back then of replacing some of my
JK> appliances with KA since the dishwasher was so good, but quickly
JK> changed my mind after her experience.

I try to check out something like 'Consumer Reports" for big appliance
purchases. We've never bought a dishwasher tho, nor had ad any in the
places we've lived in gone bad on us.

>> well. Shortly after I bought the dishwasher though, Hobart was bought
>> out by another company
>> (Whirlpool, I think).. and that's when the quality started to suffer.

JK> > OTOH, my Whirlpool dryer is 18 years old & going strong; the washer
JK> is > now 7 and still working well.

JK> Perhaps a testimony to how well things were made 18-20 years ago? But
JK> that is a good thing. And my Whirlpool appliances (think the new
JK> range is one) seem to work well.

The dryer doesn't have all the fancy electronic circuitry of newer
models.

>> for no charge. It was very soon after I got the mixer that it broke.

JK> > They made good there.

JK> Yes, they did. They put it in the mail right away. I guess I'm not
JK> anxious to find out what the shipping will be for the mixer itself :)

Check places like UPS or Fed Ex; they're probably cheaper than the USPS
on something like the mixer.

>> Figured.. :) The Professional only comes as a stand mixer.

JK> > But it does come in all sorts of interesting colors too. Not all
JK> ones > I'd associate with kitchen appliances. I went with the pewter
 JK> (darker) > grey.

JK> Think that's the one I have as well.. they do come in some fancy
JK> colors though :) I like the red one but for what it's worth, nothing
JK> in my kitchen was red now. Years ago I painted the kitchen in the

David got Rachel a red KA but one of the lesser powered models. Now
she's collecting all kinds of red accessories to go with it.

JK> first house we bought white, with red trim on all the molding, etc..
JK> It looked really nice because we also put in a vermont slate floor,
JK> and the red trim went so well with the red tiles.

Pretty. My kitchen is the standard rental white. I've got a lot of
color accents--German & British tea towels hung on the walls, stainless
steel dish rack & trash can, blue towels on the top of the "butler" as a
padding for the marble slab & cutting board since I've got other stuff
on top, etc. IOW, nothing specific but lots of color.

>> > the maximum amount of whole wheat flour that is suggested.
>> Yes, you have to be careful with that.

JK> > I am, believe me. Don't want to have to replace this any time soon.

JK> Yes, same here :) I'd miss it too much, that's for sure.

Agreed on that one!

>> The thing I do, is start the kneading, then break it into thirds..
>> leaving only 1/3 to knead and continue. When that 1/3 is done, I wrap
>> it in plastic and continue with the other "chunks". In other words, I
>> don't do the entire amount at once. It does work so fast still, it's

JK> > I'd probably do it in halves if I had to split. Right now I can do
JK> the > entire amount of dough if it's a short time on kneading needed.

JK> I tried halves, and the bowl still jumped out :( That's why I think
JK> the clip needs to be replaced.

Sounds like it. Hopefully it won't be almost the cost of a new machine
to do it.
