ML>> he had the bad grace to die or otherwise exit the scene, and now
 ML>> it's crummy again.
NB>> We had a similar experience here with a couple of Chinese restaurants.

 ML> It's a universal truth, I think. A restaurant that maintains a
ML> consistent standard through changes of ownership and regimes of
 ML> accountants is a rarity.

That indeed seems to be the case.

ML>> A mile is quite a distance. Considering that I'm so inefficient
ML>> that each stroke probably carries me two feet, that would mean
 ML>> over 2500 strokes, an arm-damaging ordeal.
NB>> It may have been in multiple sessions, but done in a specific length
 NB>> of time
ML> Maybe they added up, sort of lifetime feet traveled, in the same
ML> way that I have 1.3 million lifetime miles on United.

Possibly. :)

NB>>> She was trying to get me to do the Australian crawl...
ML>> Drink two bottles of best Barossa Shiraz. Fall over. Crawl.
NB>> lol. nice. I was underage at the time, though... ;) One bottle
NB>> might have done it, being totally unused to alcohol... (G)
ML> One bottle probably does it for most people. I recently got
ML> sick on less than one bottle, but then I wasn't in practice,
ML> and most of my intake was sweet wine (first rose and then Port).

Ok, then, a couple of glasses, even.. ;) The only time alcohol got me
sick, I think it had help. I was a someone's date at a college Ski Club
party, and had a little beer, a little wine, some hamburgers cooked in
wine, a hotdog cooked in beer... needless to say, it didn't sit well.
The meat might have been a little turned, even... Long time ago, and I
survived, thankfully... (G)

NB>> As it turned out, floating wasn't the problem... my face in the water
NB>> was. Backfloat works just fine, a modified side stroke works ok,
NB>> treading water with just my feet in a slow motion works fine...

ML> Someday I should introduce myself into a pool again just to
ML> revisit those pleasures. Funny thing was that unathletic but
ML> fairly strong moi used to do a creditable butterfly.

If we have a Picnic up at Boyd Pond where our camp is, you can give it a
try in the Pond. :) It's spring-fed, so fairly clean, if cold. ;)
There's other pastimes available there, too, for those who are
interested, boats (canoe, row, motored), fishing, nature photography...

NB>> try anything that gets lots of water in my face, and I freeze up,
NB>> panic, and need to know where the bottom of the pool is, and that it
NB>> isn't too deep there, so as to get face dependably out of the water by
 NB>> standing up.
ML> I used to be able to hold my breath for minutes on end and should
ML> perhaps practice to get back up beyond the 45 seconds I just did.
ML> Survival skill, you know. Of course, holding one's breath while
ML> flailing one's arms and legs about is another thing altogether.

Holding my breath is one thing. Having face underwater at the same time
is a totally different thing! I'll use the treading-water survival
skill instead, I think. ;)
