Ärende: And Sew On [1]
====================================================================
Hi Janis,

>> up) touches the presser foot. It thinks the thread is 'broken' and
>> reports it to you (g). It's easy to fix, just move the thread, but I
>> noticed that happening.

JK> > I've not noticed that happenening with our machine. It does seem
JK> odd to > start sewing with no visible bobbin thread tho.

JK> With the Singer, you do have the bobbin thread visible, but it has to
JK> be in the right position, and not lying across the embroidery foot ...
 JK> picky machine :)

I don't have that issue with my machine.

>> alone.. you still have to get the cassette to "see" the thread as
>> well. Sound like a real PIA.

JK> > At that point, I'd take it to a repair person & see what the
JK> estimate to > fix would be. If it were over a certain level, I'd tell
 JK> them not to
 JK> > bother & I'd buy a new machine for "take with."

JK> I think I'd do the same in both cases.

I'll see if I can get one that will cook supper and clean up afterward.
(G)

JK> > OTOH, we have to go thru more hoops. But, our old "big" laptop has a
JK> > lot of sewing stuff on it, like the embroidery software. I also got
JK> the > "Threads" magazine first 24 years DVD; I think Steve put it on
 JK> there as > well.

 JK> 24 years :) I didn't know they'd been around that long (g). Probably
JK> some very interesting articles on that DVD.

I've not really looked at it. Now that class is over, I'll have more
time for that.

JK> > Combination of factors in that one. But if schools made math and
JK> reading > more fun--incorporate some cooking into it maybe--then kids
JK> would know > how to, and maybe enjoy cooking with things other than
 JK> the microwave.

JK> Agree there. We had a home economics class when I was in Jr. and
JK> Senior high school.. that program was still around when my kids went
JK> to the same school - male and female children were both required to
JK> take it... and taught to cook and sew.. The girls also had to take a
JK> semester of shop (g).. so no one was left out :) Not sure if that
JK> school is still doing that program now or not though.

Rachel had co-ed, required in junior high but she was in Berlin at the
time. Deborah missed home ec. I only took it in junior high; my senior
year, they started a "Batchelor Survival" class for boys. They even
learned how to make chocolate chip cookies. (G)

>> guess is the getting 'older' that most people hate. :( For most of

JK> > High metabolism. Most of us have one that slows down as we age.

JK> Some things are slowing down, I can see that (G)

Some of mine are pure crawling!

>> (it's a known side effect). I think if I was lucky, I was about
>> 110lbs. Right now I'm at about 120-125.

JK> > Evry little bit helps.

JK> Yes, it does. Grandma used to insist I eat custard when I'd visit her
JK> in Dunmore, PA.. she was determined to fatten me up, she'd tell me
JK> (g). I loved eating it so I'd wolfe it down.. didn't work though.. I
 JK> just grew a bit taller I think (g).

Did your siblings get any?

JK> > I'm still more than that, but loosing a bit here
 JK> > & there.

JK> That's the healthy way to lose it if you need to. Everybody is
 JK> different though.

Yes; I've been in a narrow range the last few years. Dropped 20 or so
fast when I got off prednisone & we moved to HI.

>> Yes, I would think frajitas would demand that seasoning.. that btw, is
>> also one of the things my son will eat.. mexican food ..

JK> > That one is hybrid Tex-Mex. (G) But still good.

 JK> Sounds really good :)

They're good over rice, as deconstructed fajitas too.
>> air".. I had some friends move there just for that reason. That and

JK> > And the southeastern corner has rain every summer--the monsoon
 JK> season. > it gets very humid then--both before a late afternoon/early
 JK> evening
JK> > thundeerstorm and after one.

JK> Boy, sounds almost like the tropics there (g) I truly didn't know
JK> about that aspect of Arizona.

Weather patterns that move up from Mexico in the summer cause it. They
also get snow in the state.

JK> > And my folks used German when they didn't want us to know what they
 JK> were > discussing. Steve & I used ASL.

JK> We'd hear my parents talking in Italian for the same reason, but still
JK> they wouldn't teach us any of it. When I asked why, Mom said it was
JK> really important to them at the time to make sure we 'fit in'. I
JK> guess they'd experienced some negatives when they were growing up.

JK> My daughter used to use sign language with her children .. it was
JK> incredible to see a toddler signing to make his desires known. I guess
JK> a number of the younger moms did that :)

Talking with one, her son learned "milk" as his first sign.

JK> > No, Steve cat naps (falls asleep in his chair at the computer).

 JK> I think I've caught Ron a few times as well (G).

Must be the hum of the electronics.
