Hi Janis,

JK> > visited them in 1975. Waking up around 3 am to the smell of bread
JK> > baking, then having it on the breakfast table a few hours later was
 JK> so > nice. (G)

JK> Can you imagine the time they'd get up to do that... maybe when I was
JK> in my twenties I could do that, but not these days (G)

I know, I've nevr been an early morning person so staying up late to get
it started would have been my job preferance. Let someone else finish
it. (G)

>> > And you would have fun, eating your way thru whatever countries you
>> > decide to visit. (G)

>> Most likely (grin). How could one not enjoy that :) :)

JK> > Only if you didn't like what you were eating. Ordering in a foreign
JK> > language can be a challenge sometimes--you may not get what you're
 JK> > expecting.

JK> That's true - I've always wanted to go to France or Italy - and MIGHT
JK> be ok ordering there (g). Now Germany, I'd be at a loss.. though I
JK> did know a miniscule amount of German once upon a time (g). Ron did
JK> study German in college, so maybe we'd be ok there.. doubt we'll ever
JK> make it to find out :)

You never know. I thought my 3 week visit to Germany before I got
married would be the most I'd ever be there. Eleven years later, we
moved there for just short of 6 years, split between Frankfurt and
Berlin (before and after the wall came down). Had many memorable meals
over there--ones we cooked, at friends houses, church and restaurants.

>> It's a commercial holiday in this country, just like Christmas has
>> become.

JK> > Sadly, yes. We usually didn't see signs of Christmas over there
 JK> until > November--except at the PX.

JK> Isn't it just comical how it seems the "holiday industry" starts
JK> sooner and sooner every year? Some years recently have been
 JK> outrageous.

Not so much comical as sad because of the comercial push. Not hardly a
breath of the real reason.

>> > I don't do too much frying type stuff in mine, mostly stir fry type
>> > meals. I used to call it "mock Chinese" until Michael corrected me
>> that > it's the real thing because he does it as well.

>> Yes, it's very Chinese - When you come, you can take a look at some
>> of my Chinese cookbooks. I have one recipe for chicken that requires
>> lowering the entire chicken in the wok.. forget the name of the recipe
>> but it was good :)

JK> > OK, Jume 30? Italian cooking and Chinese cook book reading--quite
 JK> the > pairing.

JK> It sounds good to me :) Looking forward to it :)

It's less than a week away now.

>> hahaha :) Well, I don't know if my corn plants will make it. Too

JK> > My brother wanted to put corn in; I don't know if he did tho. Dad
JK> is > having fun puttering with his container gardening. (G)

JK> That's good. I actually pulled a couple of good sized beets the other
JK> day. That was neat :)

We've enjoyed the baby beets from the one stand at the Farmer's Market.
We've roasted them but I might buy a larger amount and can some pickeled
beets when we get back to NC.

>> Brown arborio cooks the same way that white arborio does. It's good
>> :)

 JK> > I'm still looking for it.

JK> I'll have to look at wegman's over here to see if I can find it again.
JK> I thought I had some in my cupboard, but I don't after all.. what I
JK> found in my cupboard was just plain brown rice, not arborio. But I
JK> can picture the container so I'm hoping wegmen's will have it again
 JK> (g).

And I'll look again at Whole Foods when we get back to NC.

JK> Yep, we're in the 80's now as well... it was nice in Ithaca this
JK> weekend though and it really warm. My daughter and her husband found
JK> another place that their hoping works out. The first house they had
JK> put money on, fell through when the owner wanted to stay in house for
JK> an extra period after the closing.. this new one they are renting with
JK> an option to buy.. I like the idea a lot better for them. If it works
JK> out to be a good place, that's super.. if not, there is no hastle
 JK> moving to somewhere else.

Hope all is going well there; we'll talk more about it next week.
