Hi Michael,

ML> Brings forth the question of what the meaning is of an earned
 ML> doctorate.
RH> I guess you'ld have to go back quite a ways to answer that one. It
RH> probably dates back to the Middle Ages when all the academia
RH> rig-a-ma-role really came into inot it's prime.

ML> Not the meaning I was looking for. Which relates to the real
ML> world, rather than the middle ages one (bachelor being someone
ML> trained in a subject, magister one who had mastered it, and
ML> a doctor being qualified to teach (docere) it).

OK, difference in interpretaton again.

RH> I could probably qualify for a PhD in a number of areas. (G)

 ML> Go for it!

But not under modern requirements of hours of expensive classes, a
thesis, etc. Under a hands on experience type of qualification, I would
have qualifications. Actually, probably more likely a Master's in
several areas, maybe a Doctorate in one or two.

RH> Depends on how sloppy I want to eat. (G) I like the crunchiness of
RH> hard tacos but don't always want to wear my meal on my shirt.

ML> That's what bibs, napkins, and dark clothing were made for.

I'd probably go for the lots of napkins option. Dark clothing shows
foodstains easily, especially if it's solid colored. A print is less
likely to show it. A bib isn't always available or practical.

ML> To be fair, meals that have substantial fried components
ML> traditionally have acid garnishes to counteract the grease
ML> - lemons, salsa, relish, those sorts of things.
RH> Not always. Go to a fast food place and see how many counter balances
RH> are easily available. Usually fries or onion rings are prominantly
RH> positioned as sides, with salads or such like not as easily found on
RH> the menu board unless the place is doing an "eat healthy" promotion.

ML> The modern eating style is a total break from the traditional
ML> one. Making food fast, using too much fuel, with (though I
ML> appreciate and possibly couldn't live without this) too much protein
ML> and fat. This all will end at some point, and eventually people will
ML> go back to the other way, Ronald McDonald notwithstanding.

In a lot of ways, we're going back to more traditional eating. Still
eating more fast food than we should but it's quick and (relatively)
inexpensive-what we need sometimes. At home tho, we're cooking and
eating with more of a concentration on the better for us foods, as
you've probably noticed over the last year or so.

RH> ate supper at Gramercy Tavern.

ML> Fairly snazzy jernt. Glad they enjoyed (despite the caveats).

They did, as well as their sidewalk hot dog cart meal. We took the
grand kids for a train ride, got ice cream at the turn around point.
Steve was holding Sarah with one arm & a cone with the other. She kept
asking for "bite, bite, bite"--and kept getting them so she ended up
having, and enjoying, a good bit of it. Cute to watch tho.

 ML> McChicken
 ML> cat: tastealike
 ML> servings: 4

Not as good as Chick-Fil-A tho. (G)
