That would put people off them for quite a while... the leaves of
rhubarb are likewise poisonous, good thing people discovered how good
the stems are... ;)

My mother has decided that she is avoiding all the nightshades since she
read that they can make arthritis worse, or, conversely, that avoiding
them can make the arthritis better.  So she carefully avoids peppers,
tomatoes, eggplant, and potatoes.  Makes church dinners a little dicey
on days when most of them are either pasta with tomato sauce or
casseroles with sliced potatoes.  ;)  She claims it helps, though.  I
suspect there may be a few that slip through the cracks, that she
doesn't realize are nightshade veggies...  :)
