Ärende: Wood Stoves

CS> Yup, that it would! I'm about to start another fire now. It's about
CS> 45F here outside so this saves on the heating bill. It would drive
CS> your asthma crazy though ;-)

RH> That it would! We used to have a wood burning stove as our main
RH> source of heat but that was before my asthma diagnosis. In some ways I
RH> miss it but don't miss having to feed it and the fact that the house
RH> always smelled a bit smoky.

When we got our wood stove, I read a book which said that firewood
warms you twice. Once when you chop and split it, and once when you
burn it. Although we bought cords of pre split aged oak, there were
still times when I had to get out the maul and wedge to split a very
large diameter section or the saw to trim a piece that had been cut
too long. That plus the hauling around tended to heat one up from
  the exercise.

Although it was a very nice heat, we just have not bothered for the
past 5+ winters. In fact, the wood pile at the back of the yard was
turning into compost when we had it all hauled away this year.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: SWEET POTATO PIE
 Categories: Pies, Holiday, Usenet
      Yield: 8 servings

  1 1/2 lb Sweet potatoes
      1 c Sugar, granulated
     12 T Butter, unsalted
           -(or use corn-oil
           -margarine)
      2 Eggs
      1 t Vanilla
    1/2 t Nutmeg
      1 Pie crust, unbaked

Boil potatoes until tender (20-30 minutes). Drain and peel.

In a blender, put the potatoes, sugar and butter. Mix up a little,
then add eggs, vanilla and nutmeg. Blend ingredients together well,
until mixture is very smooth. Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake at
375 degrees F. for 45-55 minutes until filling is set.

  NOTES:

  * This is an extremely simple and extremely good pie recipe. You
can even cheat and use store-bought pie crusts, in which case the
whole thing takes about 5 minutes to put together. Yield: Serves
  3-8.

  * If you don't want to make your own pie shell, I find that the Pet
Ritz factory pie shells work well.

  : Difficulty: easy.
: Time: 30 minutes preparation, 1 hour baking.
  : Precision: approximate measurement OK.
