  Tell that to the designers of the web page.   Almost all you see is
  pictures of hot-air balloons, and a few carnival type scenes.   The
  mention and definition of Spedies is buried down on one of the sub
  pages.

   Thanks -- I did not know that.   It seems that many of the areas
   where we go have hidden (and not so hidden) special foods.   In
   Springfield it was the horseshoe sandwich.   Canada has poutine (not
   really a local single city speciality, but very good).  The
   north-west has Dungeoness crabs.  Maryland has steamed blue crabs and
   crabcakes.  Boston area has clam shacks which serve delicious whole
   belly fried clams.   New England has lobster.

  I wonder how these differ from the meat on skewers served at the
  Brazilian type places.   Gail observes that the Spiedie seems to be
  much smaller cut than the meats on the Brazilian skewers -- but does
  the marinate and spicing share some similarity?


MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Garlic Herb Bread
 Categories: Microwave, Snacks, Breads, Muffins & r
      Yield: 6 servings
 
      8 oz Loaf French bread (one small
           -loaf)
    1/4 c  Butter -- softened
      1 md Clove garlic -- minced
  1 1/2 ts Fresh oregano -- finely
           -chopped
      3 tb Parmesan cheese -- grated
 
  1. Cut bread into 1-1/2-inch-thick slices, or split lengthwise.
  
  2. Blend together butter, garlic, and oregano. Spread on bread.
  Sprinkle with cheese.
  
  3. Broil until top is light brown and bubbly, 2 to 3 minutes.
  
  Makes about 12 slices, or two half-loaves.
  
  Microwave Version
  
  1. Complete as directed in steps 1 and 2 above.
  
  2. Place cut sides of bread back together to form loaf. Wrap in paper
  towel.
  
  3. Microwave on 50% power until heated through, 30 to 60 seconds. Be
  careful not to overheat bread or it will get tough.
  
  Microwave Preparation Time: About 8 minutes
  
  NOTES : Perfect accompaniment for a watercress salad.
