cs-> we can make a little trek up there that morning and come back with
cs-> goodies for lunch. 
 
dsh->  Goodies of all types are always welcomed.   I doubt that 
dsh-> there will be a defined "lunch" time though. I would not 
dsh-> be surprised if eating at the picnic starts at 0800 and 
dsh-> continues without stop until dark:-}}

Carol, I think Dale is right.  Please don't take this wrong, 
because Dale and I are not picking on you, we are just trying 
to tell you the Traditions of the Cooking Echo Picnic.  

I don't remember a single Picnic, that I attended [10 or so], 
where we all sat down at a table and had a jolly picnic.   We, 
[well Dale and I anyway] don't want a "Meal."  You get too 
full, too quick.

The usual picnic is easily set up: salad, potato salad, 
pasta salad, rolls, hotdogs, hamburgers, and dessert.  Stuff 
yourself and go home.
 
Can you imagine if we all sit down at once to get 10 or 12 
special favorite dishes of 10 or 12 special cooks, all at 
once?  How many Gourmet dishes would get cold and old before 
they all were served to everyone? 

People don't make their specialty all at once on the same 
equipment... maybe they don't feel like it, maybe they 
want to feature their special food without competition.
Maybe their food won't go well with some of the other foods.  

I know Janis has two kitchens and everyone could cook at
once, maybe, on the two stoves, but that would take planning 
and scheduling to have all the special dishes come out 
at once...too much fussing and work!

People show up at all times to suit themselves.  They don't 
all want to have to show up at a certain time for lunch.  
Some come early in the morning for breakfast, some come 
a little later if they aren't early risers [ahem], and some 
come in mid afternoon 'cause they can't make it before then.   

If one misses a special dish, well, "that's a shame... here,
try this."

Try it our way, little or no planning, no scheduling, no one 
big meal, just noshing all day long.   It's worked just great 
for at least ten years that I know of.   

If it's a disaster this year, maybe you can plan the next one.
