Ärende: bread, tomatoes, houses
===============================
Hi Janis,

JK> > That's good, don't want you being a dizzy blonde at the picnic.

JK> Darn! I was counting on that too!! Lol :) Don't worry though, I have
JK> meds if it does hit.. so no worries :) and the kind of ms I have is
 JK> R&R.. comes and goes.. (relapsing/remitting) I've had MS since I was
JK> 24 years old.. and yes, I'm an old granny now at 56 and sure, I walk a
JK> bit slower now, but so does Ron and he's not ill with anything (g). We
 JK> joke about that a lot :)

I'm just a bit younger chronologically but feel so much older at times.
I don't have the MS in the health picture but there are enough other
annoyances..........I feel like an old grandma. (To which Steve says,
"well, you are a grandma.........[smack!])

JK> > folks (Steve being one of them) get auras before a migraine comes

JK> Interesting.. Ron and my daughter don't either... it's probably like
 JK> brain-freeze /esophagus-freeze thing..

JK> > just get slammed with a mild headache all of a sudden turning
 JK> > excruciatingly painful.

JK> That's nasty... :( Ron used to wake up with them sometimes and just
 JK> be in agony.. boom.

No fun but at least there are meds on the market that help better now.

JK> > Yes; I've got to get some today. I'm trying to do a decent clean up
JK> on > the house as my in laws are coming for a couple of days next
JK> week. We > talked to them last night & found they are coming 2 days
JK> earlier than > originally anticipated. The kitchen looks fairly
JK> decent but other areas > need some work yet. Guess I'll get some
JK> chocolate for an energy boost. > (G)

 JK> That's a good idea :) :) Just don't leave tell-tale wrappers about
JK> and you'll be fine hehe :) One of the shops here in Binghamton sells

Helps to have a covered trash can in the kitchen.(G) Besides, I can
always say it's for the asthma--whch is bothering me somewhat with the
hot & humid weather.

JK> chocolate-covered coffeebeans.. they are delicious.. I'll try to get
JK> some for the picnic.. It's a neat shop to visit, a lot of asian
JK> imports, things from turkey, etc. :) Now if you had THOSE while you
JK> were cleaning...you'd be done in NO time :)

I don't know as coffee is on my short list of dislikes. If I could get
the chocolate wrapped around a sugar pill............

>> I buy Muir Glen Organic tomatoes usually.. Often, they'll have
>> Italian Peeled Tomatoes but all of their tomatoes are great.

JK> > I've bought those at times; they are good. Sometimes the commissary
JK> > will carry them but it's mostly Hunt's for the organics.

JK> If I can find a good Italian import with Italian peeled tomatoes, I'll
JK> usually go for those rather than even organic.. but it has to be a
JK> company I've known and tried before, and who hasn't changed their
JK> ingredients, etc. The Italian peeled tomatoes are sweeter than most
JK> others, and don't have as many seeds.

I've seen Cento advertised but haven't tried them yet. Again, I'd look
at the ingredients before buying (or Steve would look).

>> Heh.. the house isn't _that_ drafty (g).. but it was built in about
>> 1870 or 90 or some such.. its dated on the front of the house, and I
>> get the idea.. :) Large windows.. high ceilings (that have mostly
>> been lowered)..

JK> > Sounds like the old apartment we lived in , in NC when we were first
JK> > married. It was converted from a hotel & had the 10' ceilings. Most
JK> of > the windows faced out to the covered porch (about 10' wide, all
JK> covered) > so we called it the "dungeon" at times. That's where I
JK> learned to cook > on gas.

JK> It was built in 1875, I did look last time I was over by the front
JK> door (g).. this entire street is on the National Historic Registry.
JK> So, long windows, yes indeed.. upstairs, we thought of putting in a
JK> greenhouse for my daughter at one point, the windows were so large and
JK> the sun comes in so brightly but then they decided to move to
 JK> Ithaca.. :)

So, have you ever wanted a green house? Not too late to put one in.

>> hehe.. like the one when the Zojirushi decided to only mix in all the
>> ingredients on _one_ side of the breadmachine? that was a mess haha..

JK> > Mine hasn't done that yet. So far, the biggest trouble had been
JK> getting > an even loaf--one side is usually a bit higher than the
JK> other. Steve > added a few drops of extra water the other day and it
JK> came out even but > about as flat as an aircraft carrier on the top.
 JK> (G)

JK> I don't usually have uneven loaves.. I do make sure the flour is kind
JK> of smoothed a tiny bit, and when I put the yeast in, I do make a small
JK> well for it.. I started watching for that smoothing bit after my Zo
JK> did that one sided trick on me :) But use a really light touch.. you
JK> don't want to pack anything down..it's just a swoosh kinda after you
JK> have all the flour in there..

OK, I'd not really smoothed it, just laid the other ingredients in sort
of a line along the middle. Worth a try next time I bake.

>> It's in everything.. that's why my daughter has to make every single
>> thing she makes for her family with their allergies to soy, corn and

JK> > And that's why we're maiking a of of things again like we used to.
JK> I'm > getting pickier about label reading and if I see HFCS, it
JK> usually stays > on the shelf.

JK> Yes, same here. I can't believe they can even label coca-cola as
JK> "Classic Coke" and labe it as it's "Original Recipe", but use HFCS in
JK> it !!I had to check it myself the other day when Ron pointed it out to
JK> me :) :) We were just looking for something cold to drink at the BigM
JK> Market here in Windsor, and saw the Classic Coke sitting there.. we

Should look for the Kosher for Passover Coke and stock up when you can.

JK> ended up with some bottled water/juice/drink - No HFCS, I was amazed
JK> there is still something on the shelf! but it WAS the only thing that
 JK> didn't have HFCS :)

Straight water doesn't have it, as a general rule.
