I find them to be the least dangerous of the pulses, with white navy
beans being the worst.

Ever tried soaking them for long periods of time until they're on
the verge of sprouting, before cooking them? It helps. I do split
peas and lentils 24 hours, kidney and white beans 3-4 days, changing
the water daily so the dissolved complex sugars don't ferment in
nasty ways.

I've seen Neekha put away 2 ten ounce steaks at one seating. She
weighs in at 60 pounds so I think she's the champ on a pro-rated
basis. I phoned her tonight and mentioned that. She laughed and said
the only reason she didn't eat three was I ran out!

I suspect you'd prefer the previous steak recipe to this next one in
the queue....

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: "Japanese" Steak Salad
 Categories: Beef, Salads, Dressing, Steak
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      1 lb Beef top sirloin steak
           Well-trimmed, cut
      1    inch thick
           Sesame Marinade & Dressing
           Napa cabbage &
           Boston lettuce
    1/2 c  Thin diag. sliced carrots
    1/2 c  Thinly sliced cucumber
    1/2 c  Thinly sliced radishes
     24    Pea pods, blanched
      1    Sesame seeds, toasted
      1 c  Cooked rice (optional)
           SESAME MARINADE AND DRESSING
      3 tb Dry sherry
      3 tb Light soy sauce
      3 tb Rice wine vinegar
      2 tb Hoisin sauce
    1/2 ts Grated fresh ginger
    1/4 c  Water
      2 tb Chopped green onion
      1 tb Sugar
      1 tb dark roasted sesame oil

  Main Dish: Prepare Sesame Marinade and Dressing.
  
  Place beef top sirloin steak in plastic bag; add reserved
  marinade, turning to coat.  Close bag and marinate in fridge
  2 hrs, turning once.  Remove steak from marinade.
  
  Place on rack in broiler pan so meat is 3 to 4 inches from heat.
  Broil 14 to 16 minutes to doneness desired (rare to med-rare),
  turning once.
  
  Let stand 5 minutes.  Carve steak into thin slices.
  
  Meanwhile, place cabbage and lettuce on 4 individual  plates. Top
  with carrots and radishes.  Fan pea pods and steak slices in spoke
  fashion on salad greens.  Arrange cucumber slices in a circle, over
  pea pods and meat. Sprinkle with toasted  sesame seeds. Serve rice,
  if desired, and dressing with salad.
  
  Sesame Marinade and Dressing: Combine dry sherry, soy sauce,
  vinegar, hoisin  sauce  and ginger; mix well. Divide mixture in
  half; reserve half for steak marinade.
  
  To prepare  dressing, combine remaining mixture with water,
  green onion, sugar and oil; mix well.
  
  Yield: 1/3 c marinade, 3/4 c dressing
