He did. Once he had enough seniority to bid for blocks of
transatlantic flights reliably he maintained an apartment in Toronto
and another one in Hamburg, pocketing the hotel and meal expense
money. He had all the flights he wanted over there at 10% on any
airline. So he had a tailor in London, a girlfriend in Paris who
liked to have dinner in Rome, a favourite night club in Berlin and a
trusted dealer in Marrakech. Every winter he vacationed in the
Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico, Southeast Asia or wherever he pleased,
usually only 2-3 days at a time on layovers but at least 5-6 times a
winter.

After a couple of decades of that he tired of it and was quite
content to do runs from Vancouver to Calgary and back and be home
every night. Once in a while he would trade a block of flights and
come to Yellowknife about once a month. He'd arrive at 10 PM, we'd
have a drink and a chat and he'd take off at 2 PM the next day.

We don't even clear the roads and sidewalks regularly, just pack it
down with the traffic. Then in March we do one big snow removal
before it all melts.

      Title: Roast Beef And Avocado Sandwich
 Categories: Beef, Sandwiches
      Yield: 6 Servings
 
    1/2 c  Chopped fresh basil
      2 tb Prepared horseradish
    1/2 c  Nonfat plain yogurt
     12 oz Deli-thin sliced roast beef
      6 lg Butter lettuce leaves
      1    Avocado  peeled, cut into
     12    Slices
      3    Pita breads; halved
 
  In a small bowl, thoroughly mix basil, horseradish and yogurt.
  Spread one-sixth of the yogurt mixture on 2 ounces of beef slices;
  wrap in a lettuce leaf. Put beef wrapped in lettuce plus 2 slices
  avocado in a pita bread half. Repeat to make five more sandwiches.
