Ärende: not global warming
==========================
Hi Janis,

JK> > I don't think so--as cool as it has been, overall. Steve's mom said
JK> it > was in the 40s (western NY) last Saturday.

JK> We had frost here the night before last.. just freaky this late in the
JK> year not that I think that would be a sign of global warming though.

I'm not surprised. Memorial Day was very often when Dad did his major
planting when I was a kid.

JK> I think we'll get warmer here, not colder, if we really do enter into
JK> a global warming type situation.. but we did get frost on May 28th. I
JK> remember snow on Easter in years past recently, but Easter was April
JK> 27 or something? so by now you'd figure it should be warming up.. And

I've seen snow on the ground as late as mid May, early as mid October in
the Catskills. And yes, some of those April storms really dropped a good
amount too--it would have closed school had we not been out for Easter
break.

JK> I can't figure else how to explain the melting ice caps in the arctic
JK> regions. Oh well..Time will tell of course.

Just the cycling of the earth. It has happened before and will happen
again. Better ways to document it now means that more people are aware
of it.

JK> > I would have been too. My dad has always planted leaf lettuce; the
JK> > head stuff was new to me once I got old enough to know there were
 JK> > different kinds.

JK> I usually plant leaf lettuce as well. All this chilly weather has
JK> helped with the bumper crop :) They're loving it (g). I know it won't
JK> last so I'm enjoying it.

My folks are enjoying it too but it's too early for much of anything
else.

>> Oh that will go fast.. that's if I have any left :) I usually have to
>> fight to keep stuff around haha ;) Actually I love giving stuff away.
>> (g) And I love eating it just as much .. 'specially fresh for lunch :)

JK> > I know, that's the best part of it.

 JK> I've got a huge canner.. I think it holds 8 quarts.. I forget.. it's
JK> two rows of 1 quart jars though.. on top of each other.. so it's a lot
JK> of jars.. I bought it at Agway one year, and I'm so glad I bought it
JK> then. It's great for tomatoes, because I plant a whole 4X8 bed of
 JK> tomato plants.

I used to have a cooker that would hold (up to) 22 pints, forget how
many quarts. Now the one I have just holds 8 pints or quarts. Sold the
big one, gave away a lot of my other canning stuff when Steve went into
the Army. I wish I'd have kept the one pot and a big bowl but did keep
the 16 quart stainless steel bowl--it stil gets a lot of use for non
canning purposes. It was my bread making bowl when I did it by hand.

JK> > Some of the newer things come with the preseasoned labeling. It's
JK> not > true if you know what good, seasoned cast iron is but most folks
 JK> don't > realise the difference. (G)

JK> Hopefully they'd investigate and find out the purpose in seasoning. I

They woud be smart to do so; that way they would know it's good
cookware, once properly seasoned.

JK> did buy some replacement reveveware for my older pans recently, and
 JK> boy what a
JK> difference in weight. I think the new pans are made in Thailand -
JK> it's on the pots themselves.. but not in the USA. Obviously not as
JK> nice as the older ones are. So I'm not tossing my older ones, for

My mom has some that belonged to her mom--it's still light weight stuff
to me. (G)
