I think maybe we didn't always even have a radio in the car... when we
did, it was usually tuned to the classical station, if there was one. 
Plus, Daddy wasn't into sports of any sort, at least to follow on radio
(and we never had a TV at home, either).  And, besides, Mommy always
sang alto anyway... :)  With 5, 6, 7, 8 children (as time went on), who
also could sing, we'd have our own choir in the car... ;)  Daddy wasn't
above making up ditty-type songs along the way, either...  When we were
out test-driving a VW micro-bus, he was intrigued by the different sort
of sound the horn made, and made up a song about it on the spot... which
we all remember to this day... (G)
 
 -> A lot of the songs were actually hymns... all the stanzas, as he had
 -> learned them as a child (I think that his mother had used the same
 -> diversion for him and his brothers on THEIR roadtrips, up and down the
 -> seaboard following his Dad's ship).  And a lot of them were old Boy
 -> Scout songs, which, again, he had learned growing up as a Scout... and
 -> which he had taught to further generations of scouts, as a scoutmaster.
 RH> I've done the hymns, do 'em most weeks in fact, but not boy scout

When Daddy was scoutmaster, he used to take me with him to scout
meetings... ;)  Of course, I was only 3 or 4 at the time... and he was
getting me out of Mommy's hair so she could take care of the other 2
little ones...  ;)
 
 -> refreshments, we also made some of the recipes he had taught us... like
 -> his famous peanut butter candy... for which I don't have the recipe
 -> close at hand... if/when I find it, I may post it... :)

I'm not even sure I have a copy of it... I'll have to go looking.  :)

(snort)  I probably should just move my recipe box up here, since I
don't usually use the recipes in it anymore anyway, and then I'll have
them at hand for posting...  (G)
