Hello, Glen.

Sunday November 06 2011 at 14:47, you wrote to me:

There was discussion of using a small, self-contained "portable" nuclear power
cell to do the heating. There's nothing about it in the official Shell
documentation but I've read in several places and articles across the Web that
Shell was considering this seriously at one time.

It's been proven without a doubt here in the US that "fracking" does cause
environmental damage and even earthquakes (really, USGS report on it said that
as its conclusion!). Unfortunately, what's cheap and easy isn't always the
best thing. It is an ongoing problem to be solved here in the US also but,
without going into a political slant, I'll say that when the government who is
in charge of these things wants nothing to do with them, well, problems happen.

GJ> There are arguments over that, also, in the sea between Australia and

The big thing about ICP versus offshore oil drilling is that you can get to oil
shale at a much shallower depth than offshore oil. There's also the pressure
point (pun intended): offshore oil drilling deals with high and really
dangerous oil pressures while ICP pressure is relatively "safe". The oil shale
issue is big here in the US since we're sitting on the largest resource--an
estimated 6 trillion barrels--of oil shale in the world. It's called the Green
River Formation and is located in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Conviently, 98%
of that resource is owned by the Federal government including the US Navy.
Interesting fact: after WW2, the US military took control of nearly all of the
oil shale deposits in the US.

The reason why I know so much about this: I'm currently writing a "scientific
argumentation" paper in a college English class I'm attending. Lots and lots
of reading on this.

I'll forget it by Christmas though. :P

GJ> And most people like to cook with gas.

Indeed. Around here, though, natural gas is very expensive. My home uses
natural gas for the water heater and furnace. The gas bill is always high even
though we are on "budget billing". That's where the gas company takes an
entire year of bills, averages them out, and charges me a set rate every month
which is supposed to help, but with all of the taxes and customer fees, it's a
killer. :P

Since it's the season for pumpkin over here in the States:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Festive Pumpkin Pie
 Categories: Cheese, Desserts, Pies
      Yield: 6 Servings

8 oz Cream cheese; softened, 1 pk
      1 t Cinnamon; ground
    1/2 t Salt
      3 ea Eggs; lg
      1 c Milk
1 ea Unbaked 9-inch pie shell
      2 t Sugar
3/4 c Brown sugar; firmly packed
    1/2 t Ginger, ground
    1/4 t Cloves; ground
      1 c Pumpkin; mashed, canned
      1 t Vanilla
      1 c Dairy sour cream

Cream the cream cheese, brown sugar, spices and salt together, in a
bowl, until they are light and fluffy, using an electric mixer set on
medium speed. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each
addition. Blend in the pumpkin, milk, and vanilla. Pour the mixture
into the unbaked pie shell. Bake in a preheated 375 degree F. oven
for 45 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted halfway between the
edge and center comes out clean. Cool slightly on a wire rack.
Meanwhile blend the sour cream and sugar together and spread over the
top of the warm pie. Return the pie to the oven and bake an
additional 3 to 5 minutes or just until the topping is set. Cool on
a wire rack. Cover and chill in the refrigerator before serving.

MMMMM

Later,
Sean
