Meee! We're going to Annie and Billy's friends Steve and
Dorothy's, where Steve just bagged two deer with one bullet,
verified by an eyewitness who is not a member of the club of
which Steve is president (no reason to lie): so venison for XE.
Back to Williamsport where Annie and I will cook roast beef,
scallopped oysters, and trifle - apparently there will be just
4 of us for XD, and Annie got a quart of shucked oysters and a
5-lb boneless rib roast. She tends to overbuy. I will make the
oysters taste as much like your stuffies as possible, not too
difficult as my crumb topping is very similar to yours but has
been slightly less buttery and slightly more wet.

 DS> Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and we're having Maryanne's sisters and
 DS> their husbands over for dinner. Nothing nearly as elaborate as
 DS> Thanksgiving, a simple pork roast with mashed, gravy, and a veg.  Then
 DS> I'll do my usual staying up until midnight to see if the animals will
 DS> talk. Not getting my hopes up, of course, since they've stubbornly
 DS> remained silent on every other Christmas Eve.

Ditto to you and to everyone reading this.

Remember to use your black walnuts. Annie got 1/2 lb of them
the other day at the local fancy shop, and they were already
becoming stale-tasting when we made this:

Fabulous nut cake
cat: American, celebrity, sweet
servings: 8 to 12

3 eggs
1 stick butter, softened
3 oz milk
1 oz Cognac
1/2 ts almond extract
- use more if not using black walnuts
1 1/2 c flour
2/3 ts cream of tartar
1/2 lb shelled black walnuts (other nuts okay,
- but use more of them)

Separate the eggs. Beat the yolks with the butter, then
add the liquids. Beat the whites to soft peaks and fold
in. Sift the flour and cream of tartar and fold in.
Fold in the black walnuts. Bake in a loaf pan at 275F for
2 hr 20 min or until the cake tests done. Cool in the pan
for 30 min; then turn out onto a rack and let cool completely.
Frost or not as is your preference. This cake is very dense
and will keep in a cool place or in the freezer.
