BS> Ding! I see the problem. When we fly in country or anywhere from the
BS> US our bags go into the nether regions of the air terminal, never to
BS> be seen until we reach our destination. They will, most likely, be
BS> xrayed and possibly hand searched, if so there will be a notice placed
BS> inside of the search and nothing about zapping them it's just a given.

So what happens if Something Suspicious is found in your bag? Do they
shut down the airport and get the dogs out to find you? Or do they
just take the bag out the back and blow it up? (Of course if the
latter, you would know nothing about it until you arrived in Ulaan
Bator without your spare pace-maker.)

BS> Which is why you should never lock a bag, they'll break it if they
BS> want. I, personally, use small 4" cable ties looped through the
BS> zipper and something else. Inside I provide a spare tie along with a
BS> LARGE note to please secure the bag. Truth be told, they've never

I am cheap. I use wire garbage bag ties, which can be re-twisted
after the bag had been opened. As my experience with light-fingered
bag handlers indicates that they are opportunistic, just choosing bags
that they can unzip and feel inside in a matter of seconds only, the
wire ties would be adequate discouragement. That seems to work, at
least with the Sydney handlers.

BS> opened our bags. In either case it will be a positive indicator that
BS> the bag was opened. However, once we fly internationally there's an
BS> additional set of conditions which take effect while passing through
BS> customs upon arrival. The bags may or may not be searched while
BS> standing at customs, depends on the day, time, mood of the person
BS> there, or their zodiac sign, what country, price of bat guano, or
BS> something unrelated. There are some really stringent things inspected
BS> for. Why, when we returned from Europe I had a jar of pork spread
BS> confiscated because of, according to the inspector, the possibility of
BS> contamination with "Mad Cow Disease". I think somewhere along the
BS> line Forrest Gump was hired.

Our lot are worse. If you bring in anything like that without
declaring it, it is taken away and destroyed, and you get a $220 fine.
If you have high value items such as heroin, you are handed over to
the Federal Police, never to see daylight again! If you are suspected
of carrying such a substance internally, you are kept until you pass
it into the special, monitored toilet.

In Europe no one seems to care what you have in your bags. It would
be dead easy for a suicide bomber to lug 50kg of explosive onto the
Eurostar train and blow it up in the tunnel half way to London.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Train Smash
 Categories: Condiments, Chilies, Vegetables
      Yield: 5 Servings

      2 lg Yellow onions; chopped
      2 lg Tomatoes; seeded, peeled,
           - chopped
Salt & a lot of pepper
      1 tb Ground dried chilies
           +=3DOR=3D+
      2 tb Chopped fresh chilies
1 lg Bell pepper; seeded, diced
      1 Rib celery; sliced thin
      4 Scallions; green tops only,
           - sliced thin

Start to fry the onion, tomato, salt and pepper in a slow pan with a
bit of oil. When about half ready add the chile, bell pepper, celery,
scallion tops and anything else you think would make a good addition.
This predates sweet chilli sauce and Tabasco. Spoon liberally over
whatever you are having for breakfast, preferably some snags and
toast - eggs too, if you have them handy. From:
