His memory is certainly kept alive in his home town of Invercargill.
I will attempt to send you some pics I took in the museum there.  I
was taken to Oreti Beach, where Burt's first speed trials took place.
It is several km long, and quite wide.  These days there are usually
dozens of cars parked on it while families go swimming, and there is a
Speed Limit 30 km/h sign on the entry road.

      Title: Teenager's Survival Speedy Minestrone
 Categories: Soups, Easy
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      1 ts Olive oil
      1 md Carrots; chunked
      1    Celery stalks; chunked
      1 md Leeks; chunked
      3 sl Bacon rashers; chopped
      1 md Potatoes; chunked
    800 g  Tomatoes; tinned
      3 c  Stock- vegetable
  1 1/2 l  Water
    150 g  Pasta shapes
    300 g  Butter beans; drain/rinse
      1 c  Beans- green;frozen/chopped
 
  Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Cook the carrot, celery, leek,
  bacon & potato over medium heat, stirring, for about 7 minutes, or
  till the leek is soft.
  
  Stir in the undrained tomatoes, stock & water. Bring to the boil &
  add the pasta. Simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes, or till the
  pasta is tender. Add the butter beans & green beans & simmer
  uncovered till heated through. Serve.
