RH>> I had basically no choice--not that many places to go to off campus in
RH>> Houghton, no wheels and not too much extra money. Parents paid for the
RH>> meals so might just as well go with them (except breakfast, which I
 RH>> generally skipped).
NB>> Well, I was basically living at home, so meals on campus tended to be
NB>> catch as catch can for me... there were periods of time when I wasn't
NB>> eating much at all... ;)

RH> Difference between commuter and resident student. Steve was a commuter
RH> to Roberts for a year, decided he'd rather be a resident for seminary.
RH> We don't live on campus, rented a house in town, but close enough to
RH> the campus we can easily participate in activities there.

Quite. In my case, I spent lots of time on campus, often spending the
night in a friend's dorm room.... that way I was easily participating in
the activities and all, but not officially resident... Not really the
best of both worlds, sometimes yes, sometimes not at all... ;)

NB>> If they were canned veggies, there was salt in them from the
NB>> canning... no-salt canned veggies were pretty much a novelty (and

RH> I'm presuming they were canned, they tasted like it.

I've known people who could cook the life out of fresh veggies, and
you'd swear they'd been canned... ;)

RH>>> A warning sign and a bottle of psuedo-Malinda's hot sauce will
RH>>> cover both bases. Also a carton of sour cream and some shredded
 RH>>> cheddar cheese.
NB>>> There you go.. ;) A properly appointed chili... ;)
RH>> A lot better than the no heat white chili I had at a baby shower
 RH>> today.
 NB>> Just say no...? ;0

RH> The one who made it said it had some heat but I sure didn't taste any.
RH> Guess I should have grabbed the bottle our Life Group keeps in the
RH> fridge and used a drop or 2.

Guess your heat tolerance is a bit higher than hers... :) Would she
have been offended if you'd gone for the hot sauce bottle...?

NB>> Is the bidding monetary...? With the funds used for some worthy
NB>> cause...? Maybe that played into the situation...?

RH> The dessert auction is a fund raiser (usually) for youth camp
RH> scholarships. Our first year in the new to us building they decided to
RH> donate the money toward a new sign for the front of the church
RH> property but generally it helps defray the cost of camp. The fact that
RH> it is a good cause fund raiser is probably why the bidding war was/is
RH> fierce at times but it's a lot of fun as well.

That would make sense... :)

RH> Last year I made my lemon pound cake; the guy that wanted it wasn't
RH> there but called in and bid by phone (and won the cake).

Where there's a will, there's a way... :)

RH> I've not decided what to do for this year; the auction is April 6.

That gives you a little time to figure out what you want to make... :)

 RH> (Olives)
NB>>> Wegmans also has some of the fancy stuffed varieties jarred and
NB>>> on the shelf with the condiments... not sure that there's any
NB>>> savings in cost, although the pepperdews are a little less in
 NB>>> the jar...
RH>> I didn't take the time to look as I had to get home, get stuff put
RH>> away and get to the baby shower. Maybe next time................
NB>> Always a next time... ;) Some things just aren't all that urgent,
 NB>> really... ;)

RH> Especially not when there's so many other things to do that day. I
RH> think I'd rather go down to to Whole Foods and get some from their
RH> bar--there's more of a variety to choose from.

Then the problem is deciding just which to choose this time... ;)

Speaking of olives... I finally had that lunch date with my friend
Donna at Olives (the little Greek Taverna that I had mentioned that is
one of the sit-down places for MidEastern food...) Fortunately, it
still is in existance, and appears to be doing quite well still.. She
was intrigued by the broiled cheese appetizer, so ordered that... Nice
tasty cheese, with crispy edges, served with pita wedges... and a large
portion, so we shared it. We both had gyros, hers was eggplant, mine
was the Olives special... Both very nice, mine had typical gyro meat
where hers had breaded eggplant strips, with tomatoes, onions and
tzatiki (sp?) sauce. I had mine with (turned out to be a very large
order of) sweet potato fries, she had Greek fries with feta with hers...
All very tasty, and we were too full to even think about dessert... ;)

Have you been with your friends to the Korean restaurant yet...?
