Ärende: different worseness 456
===============================
ML> Maybe. The money part is troublesome, but I am not totally
ML> averse to being fitted out with a rifle, even if I am too
ML> myopic to use it effectively.
NB> That would be a drawback for me, never having dealt with any sort of
NB> firearms myself... being content to let others do so instead...

I used to be all right with firearms, though not the best
shooter around. The main unpleasantness for me was the
extreme treble component of the report - for a .22, the
explosion is much smaller, so the intensity of sound is
less, but is also in the most part of a frequency beyond
even my sensitive child ears, much less my relatively
insensitive adult ears. Even a .222, which is loaded with
a respectable amount of powder, produces a high percentage
of ultrasonic frequencies and so is tolerable. The fatter
the caliber of the bullet, the lower the frequencies of
the report, and that coupled with the heavier loading
causes me greater pain. A .30-06 would be at the limit of
my tolerance even with ear protection.

ML> Indeed. But sheep cheesiness is worse to me than
 ML> cow cheesiness.
NB> Does goat have similar worseness...? I ask, in part, since a number
NB> of people seem to have less problems with goat cheesiness than with
 NB> cow...

Similar worseness to sheep, but often goat cheese is much
less aged, so that's an extenuating factor. Now the food
served in hell would be a seriously aged goat cheese.

ML> But relative human rights is pretty important, at
ML> least from the EU point of view.
NB> And the definitions of that are more fluid... from their perspective..

I think you're referring to Turks and other nondemocratic
populations, as opposed to the EU? If so I'm inclined to
agree.

ML> I wonder if that will continue or our luck will
ML> eventually catch up with us. I hope the former of course
ML> but probably have enough hotel and air points to cover
 ML> most eventualities.
NB> I hope the former as well... I'd maybe worry more about getting out
NB> in one piece should things get bad... ;0

If it looks bad enough so that the airlines issue waivers,
I guess I might not go (but in fact have gone anyway in
cases where it appeared to me that the news reports and
State Department bulletins have been overstating the case),
but generally the dangers grow only gradually, with lulls
that allow people to avoid them (by leaving the country,
especially). Except in an unforeseeable natural disaster,
I figure my chances would be as good as anyone's. Lilli is
a cause for a little more concern, but she's not unaware
and has her own resources besides.
==
ML> Well said, though there are many who spend their entire
ML> lives in a very circumscribed space for the sake of that
 ML> worrisomeness.
 NB> Way too true...

And it's such a pity. Today I got a fortune cookie that
said something along the lines of most people sit and
watch; don't do that. And I've been trying to follow that
advice, for decades before I read that fortune.

ML> We were talking about places to go to satisfy our mileage
ML> requirements, and I got an e-mail with that as the title,
 ML> spelled Loo-ee.
 NB>> sorry...
 ML> But no apology.
NB> And hers was more egregious... ;)

For sure. I think she gets a pass, which by and large
she does.

ML>> So I will have to buy a refundable ticket to go through
ML>> security and then go to the club and have it refunded.
 NB>> How silly... ;0
ML> I will first pursue the sensible avenue. As my friend Alex
ML> once said to a ticket counter agent, "do you want to do this
ML> the easy way or the hard way?"
 NB> Exactly. :)

We'll see what works.

ML> smoke-free ones as well. It is easy in climates like the
ML> Mediterranean and the southeast Asian to get people to comply.
NB> Less of the pariah-ness of being sent out to smoke in nasty cold
 NB> weather, eh...?

There's the comfort factor, too.

 NB>> A timely backup is a good thing... :)
ML> Which reminds me. Pardon while I go and prepare my files.
NB> All accomplished now, I take it...?

Vera alldid.
