I don't mind white meat chicken if it's not dry and tasteless - and even
Popeyes struggles to get flavour into their white-meat chicken. So, I do the
dark meat there - and on the rare trips to Kentucky Fried Colonel. Around here,
though, the Colonel's original recipe chicken tends to be greasy in extremis
and their Extra Crispy - isn't even crispy. Places that serve "broasted"
chicken manage to keep the white pieces moist if not overly flavourful - thus
are somewhat tolerable.

So the trip is worthwhile. My deal is 6c/gallon off at MotoMart (a Midwestern
chain) and in May 10c/gal off the advertised prices - using, of course, their
direct debit card. Plus, if I buy 10 gallons or more on a Sunday I get a free
car wash. I try to time my gas purchases to take all the benefits I can from

Kroger's - who moved out in a labour dispute - have a similar program and the
newly arrived and not-yet-open Hy-Vee offer fuel discounts for purchases at
their grocery stores. I shall investigate how that works out.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Hy-Vee Stuffed Bell Peppers
 Categories: Beef, Vegetables, Grains, Rice, Cheese
      Yield: 6 servings

      6 md Red bell peppers
      1 lb 95%-lean ground beef
    1/2 lg White onion; diced
      2 cl Garlic; minced
    1/2 c  Diced green bell pepper
    1/2 c  Shredded carrots
    1/4 c  Dry quick barley
    1/2 c  Dry instant brown rice
      1 c  Broth
      1 c  Shredded mozzarella; divided

    Preheat oven to 250oF/120oC.

  Cut tops off peppers; remove seeds and membranes. Place
  peppers in a large pot; cover with salted water. Bring to
  a boil; reduce heat, cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Drain
  peppers and set aside.

  In a large skillet, brown beef with diced onion and garlic.

  Stir in bell pepper, carrots, barley, rice and broth.
  Simmer, covered, for 10 to 15 minutes.

  Stir in 1/2 cup cheese.

  Fill each bell pepper with beef mixture. Top each with
  remaining cheese and bake for 25 minutes.
