The trick is to use a networked (or "shared" in Windows) printer and set up a 
"NET USE" alias under
DOS.  A real kludge, but it works.  I've done that trick in Windows XP quite
often.  I can't say for anything higher unless you're running DOS in a true
virtual machine where the VM engine can share hardware with the VM.

The offical DOSbox build does not have printer support in it since DOSbox's
primary audience is gamers.  However, under Linux, one can set up and use 
DOSemu to
print directly to LPT1, LPT2 as DOSemu redirects that to lpr, lpr -P 2
accordingly.

Sometimes, that is just a pain to have to deal with constantly.  I tried
Gourmet Recipe Manager but it has problems dealing with mass imports of MM
recipes.  It's been a while since I've tried it so I may try it again (once
I go through dependency hell; Slackware is not known for dependency
management with its packaging system).
