Ärende: heavy lifting
=====================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> Lots of things that don't require heavy lifting... :)

RH> Seems like there's no end to them. His latest project is trouble
RH> shooting our indoor/outdoor thermometer. Found out a new sensor for
RH> that would cost enough to buy a new one.

NB> So you are getting a new one...? Or living with the old as is...?

We're living with the old one as is for now, don't know what the long
term decision will be. It works quite well set on an end table but if
it's moved to the wall where it had been hanging (maybe 5' diagonal
line), it goes kerfluie.

NB> RH>> picked up a butcher's block cutting board the other day at the

RH> Yes, we took it back and it was picked up within a few minutes by a
RH> student. In it's original condition it was ready for the discard
RH> dumpster, now it's being used for a good cause.

NB> Presumably in the kitchen, as an adjunct to preparing wonderful food.
 NB> ;)

Hopefully; I've no idea how good a cook the young lady that picked it up
is but she knew a good thing when she saw it. I wouldn't have minded
keeping it but for the fact I've got a slew of cutting boards (both wood
and plastic) and no extra counter top space to leave one set out.

RH> We're going to keep the 2nd and 3rd rescue projects tho. Second was a
RH> wooden dough bowl that looked like it had been used as a fruit bowl.
RH> It had some staining on the inside that is reduced, couldn't get it
 RH> entirely gone.

NB> So you'll be using it for a dough bowl now...?

Steve used it to mix up some bread yesterday; see his message to Jim for
the recipe.

RH> The latest project was a 10" Cuisinart stainless steel fry pan that
RH> had burnt on gunk on the inside. That was an easy clean up with Dawn
RH> Power Dissolve (overnight soak, sealed in plastic wrap) and elbow
RH> grease. Since the fry pan we got with our T-fal came without a lid
RH> (another lid fit the Cuisinart pan), we decided to keep the rescue
RH> one and pass along the T-fal.

NB> After all, you are trying to reduce how much you've got, not just add

True; that's why we take things over there as well as bring thngs home.

NB> to it... ;) And someone else may need the frypan besides... :)

Most likely as there are a lot of young students around here. Some are
just starting out on their own (college), others have been thru college
and are now in seminary. Others, like us, have been around life a bit
longer before going back to school so we're pretty well set on things
like fry pans. My favorites are my 9" and 10" cast iron pans.

NB> RH>> I'll be doing more of the lifting of luggage, the cooler, etc to
NB> take RH>> that off of him.
NB> NB>> It'll make it more strenuous for you, too... :)

RH> Hopefully Steve's limit will be raised; he sees the doctor two days
RH> before we take off. If not, then we work around it.

NB> Good timing for the trip... most up-to-date conditions to evaluate...
NB> :) Hopefully the doc will think he's ready for a little more lifting.
 NB> :)

We're hoping so. After my QoV session today he lifted the case with my
sewing machine, a travel iron, current project and some other minor
things into the car before I got out there.

NB> NB>> It wouldn't work for us, with my permanent 15 pound weight
NB> limit... NB>> Interestingly, though, even after the heart attack,
NB> Richard's had no NB>> real difficulty with lifting things... though
 NB> the doctors have
NB> NB>> suggested he might not want to be lifting those 50, 60, 80 pound
NB> NB>> things for a while until they are sure he's ok for it...

RH> Give him our best; it sounds like it could have been a whole lot
RH> worse. I can understand why the doctors don't want him doing any heavy
RH> lifting until he's checked out better; they don't want him to stress
RH> the heart too much while he's recouperating.

NB> Will do. And, yes, I understand the reasoning... the doc's will have
NB> a better idea what the heart is capable of when they do the testing at
NB> the cardio rehab lab, which is yet to be scheduled. On the other
NB> hand, his continuing to be lifting things unaware of the situation may
NB> be why his heart was already working on making its own bypass...

Could be, but you don't want him stressing himself unneccessarily right
now until you have a better picture of what's going on. Three years ago
my MIL had a-fib that threw a clot into the brain causing a stroke. The
main area affected was her speech, some memory but most of that has come
back.
