RH>> We would have had the applesauce for dessert.

Other than birthday cake, we didn't have that many baked goods. Oatmeal
cookies, yes, and storeboughten cookies and fig newtons, sometimes with
the ice cream... I think both my parents grew up with ice cream as a
fairly common dessert... Daddy would tell stories of helping his aunts
and grandmother make their signature Speckledy Ice cream (vanilla with
chocolate flakes speckled throughout) as a regular summer treat at their
home in Montreat. The family recipe has alas been lost over the years.
I'm sure that Daddy bought the ice cream when it was on sale, and
stocked up... It was usually store brand, but when we moved to the
Philly area, it was Breyers more often...

NB>> wasn't the only (or even the most common) bread in our house. Whole

NB>> Later in life, they got hooked on Ezekial bread... :)

RH> We tried the Ezekial pasta once, and were not impressed with it, never
 RH> did try the bread.

I wasn't all that impressed with the bread either, but you might have
liked that better than the pasta.

RH>> We didn't get the boxed mac & cheese either. Steve & I tried it but
RH>> decided it was just as easy (and much better tasting) to go with home
 RH>> made.

My sister with the ten kids had that in her house as a staple... along
with cans of pork and beans... I got my fill of it the week or so I'd
be down there helping her with the newest baby... every couple of
years... the kids expected one or the other for lunch... ;) All I did
at my own house was to cook up the pasta, drain it and then stir in
shredded cheese to melt onto the pasta. Sometimes I'd toss in some
frozen peas, for "Mac and cheese, peas" (a favorite with my kid)...

NB>> Actually, places that would charge that much per person are pretty
NB>> much out of reach as well.. :) Fortunately, we do seem to have a
NB>> knack for finding places that are inexpensive and great food... :)

RH> Like that Korean place we went to last year; that was really good.

And that's near the top of our scale, pricewise... :)

RH> Next time we go to a Korean place, I want to get a seafood pancake. (G)

See if it's as good as the one we had...? We heard from our son that
his then boss (a Korean woman) said that Seoul Garden has the best
seafood pancakes in twon... :)

ttyl neb

... It works! Now, if only I could remember what I did.
