Ärende: a toast!
================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> I probably should have tried to get the recipe, although I was
NB> given NB>> the impression that perhaps it wasn't readily being given
 NB> out. :)

RH> It happens sometimes. I have one I don't give out, others I've given
RH> away I don't know how many times.

NB> My sister has one that was a family-only recipe in her husband's
NB> family. At my niece's baby shower, her sister-in-law was telling the
 NB> tale of
NB> asking for that recipe before she had actually become part of the
NB> family (perhaps it was the first visit, before any serious intentions
NB> had been declared)... and the dead silence that followed that
NB> request.. (G) As I remember the story, Lydia's MIL tacitly accepted
NB> Kim into the family by actually giving her the recipe... ;) That
NB> was for her rhubarb cream
NB> pie... which by the way is also VERY tasty... :)

Sounds like someone jumped the gun but someone else was gracious enough
to overlook it. The one we keep "secret" has been published several
times in organisational cook books; we just hold it secret.

NB> waiting for the NB>> news, too)... And then I was there again for
NB> lunch with my friend, NB>> getting the bento box lunch specials I
NB> told you about yesterday... :)

RH> Sounds like you were ready when he opened up. (G)

NB> We've been waiting for this for months!!! (G) I'm heading back there
NB> for lunch with another friend on Thursday... ;)

Do you have a chair with your name on it? (G)

NB> RH>> The Inn had a fire some years ago so was torn down and a new one
NB> RH>> (without the restaurant) was built.
 NB> NB>> Ah. That's a shame...

RH> Yes, but it happens. IIRC, it was an electrical fire.

NB> That can be devastating... There was a restaurant that burned down
NB> (also an electrical fire IIRC) near where we used to camp as a
NB> family... we'd gone there the very first year to have a special family
 NB> celebration of
NB> our parents' 40th wedding anniversary, also that year... and then it
NB> was a regular go-to place each year, at least for some of us... Sad
NB> when it burnt, but apparently it was sufficiently missed by the whole
NB> community that it was rebuilt totally a couple years later...

Still doing a good business? The Houghton Inn wasn't that great but
provided a spot for a date without going too far.

NB> RH>> The snack bar is still there, but
NB> RH>> revised several times since I was a student.
NB> NB>> RIT's on-campus eateries have changed substantially since my
 NB> time, NB>> too... :)

RH> I think they try to re-invent themselves every so often but keep
RH> carrying the same basic foods. Some new items, some deletions, but
RH> still can get pizza, burger, fries, etc.................

NB> Mostly they've added more places that one can eat, in more areas of
NB> the (expanding) campus... Probably as much a response to more people
 NB> to
NB> feed as anything else. But there are some changes in offerings, too..
NB> For one thing, beer used to be freely available, now not so much so.
NB> And they have more choices available like sushi and other ethnic
 NB> foods.

Houghton is adding a field house for athletcs but doubt the food will be
anything too exptic. Not enough diversity in the student population to
warrant it, I suspect.

NB> NB>> By now, too, there might be more places to eat in town...
NB> NB>> especially with the college still there and viable...

RH> Not that school. The school is basically the town. There aren't many
RH> people in the town who aren't connected to the school in one way or
 RH> another.

NB> Doesn't mean that there wouldn't be off-campus places to eat... there
NB> are always visitors, after all... ;)

Not really, in town. They'd have to go out of town for anything other
than Subway I think.

Catch you later,
