Hi Janis,

JK> > So you did well with the propane......

JK> It clobbered us when it was time to get the two large tanks filled.
JK> Thankfully at the time we weren't paying two mortgages though :)

And that you didn't have to fill the tanks every week........

JK> > ...............but not as well with the oil.

JK> Yes, that bill could get up there some years. Really high.. :(

>> of oil at the time... The cost of oil seems to be down currently and
>> so that's good news for the people looking at our house right now..
>> though the tank is full at the moment.

JK> > Prices are coming down now; we're seeing gas for under $3.00/gallon

JK> I think it's the same here... so strange :)

I'm not complaining tho.

JK> > around here. I'm not sure what natural gas is running but we will be
JK> > using it for the heat and hot water in the new house. Steve was
JK> talking > with the seller the other day and found out the highest gas
JK> bill he had > last winter was lower than our highest electic bill. He
JK> has a family, so > our bills should be much lower since it's just the
 JK> 2 of us.

 JK> Yes, that's true :)

But I'll have to get used to cooking on a smooth top stove again. I'm
going to have to re-learn what I learned in Savannah and forgot when we
moved up here.

JK> > I was over the worst of the morning sickness (thanks to tea and
JK> toast) > before the work was started but still, not fun to be cold and
JK> queasy & > not able to do much about either situation for several
 JK> hours.

JK> Unsalted "saltines" did it for me... but IIRC sometimes nothing
 JK> helped. :)

I only had one bad day--when Steve made me eat something and I really
didn't feel good. I lost it, had a touch of a flu bug. Steve came down
with it a few days later and then understood why I didn't want anything
to eat.

>> I remember some of the silliest things with my first... like Ron
>> giving me a ride to college, and me throwing up on the morning
>> newspaper right next to me on the carseat... eek. (G). I only got
>> morning sickness with my first though.

JK> > I had it the worst with my first in the early months, especially in
 JK> the

 JK> Yes, first trimester..

JK> > morning but bits of queasyness at other times if I didn't watch my
JK> > eating. Then, with both girls, in the last month or so I had a bit
JK> of > queasyness as well, which was interesting as one was 3 weeks
JK> late, the > other, 3 weeks early.

JK> That is interesting. I found I couldn't eat a lot fatty meats... but
JK> would just get queasy as you did.

That didn't bother me, for some reason.

>> That's something I would never have thought of trying :) Makes sense
>> it would work though for some cakes since the heat is slow and even.
>> hehe..now I want to try it (grin).

JK> > Rival put out something called a Cake and Bake (or something like
JK> that) > pan; you might be able to find one on E-bay if you want to try
JK> it. I'd > think a vented coffee can (or something similar) might work
 JK> just as
 JK> > well.

JK> The crockpot I have is very small... compared to some I've seen. I
JK> forget the volume it can handle.

This was put out for the original 3 quart crock pots.

>> Mom never had one... she was also big on using cast iron and actually
>> more often stainless steel.

JK> > We've got a couple of stainless steel ones, but they don't get used
 JK> very > often. (G)

JK> I use the revereware often for things like sausage and pepper, or
JK> eggs, or bacon.. and for sauce and soups, I use my larger farberware
JK> pots. I used to use my cast iron dutch oven for sauce but decided I
JK> liked the results better with the farberware.

I've got T-Fal stainless steel; I like the pots but not as thrilled with
the fry pans. Cast iron isn't as good for sauce as the acid from the
tomato will cook out some of the seasoning.

>> > Hopefully it'll sell fast.

>> We hope so... The agent let me know she's got someone interested
>> already and she is going to show it Monday. It will be amazing if we
>> get an offer on the first showing, as it will help incredibly with our
>> finances if it does. We figure to be flexible with the price, so that
>> should help as well.

JK> > Good, that you've got a showing so fast. I don't know how long the
JK> one > we are buying has been on the market but the day we first looked
JK> at it, > another person did also. We put our offer in a few days
 JK> later.

JK> When we were first looking up here, houses went so fast in the Ithaca
JK> area. We'd look at a house, go home to think about it and compare it
JK> to others we'd seen that day and they'd be gone :) When we found this
JK> house, we quickly put in an offer :) From what I understand in
JK> speaking to people in the area, houses go really fast in the area
JK> because of Cornell University. I guess if we ever decide to sell this
JK> house, we won't have to worry though right now that's hard to imagine
 JK> :)

Sounds good. The one we're buying has been on the market for a few
months. A couple of the places we looked at have sold, and closed, but
we asked for a longer time to get all the ducks in a row.

>> the high 40's.. Fall is definitely here... just in time for Halloween.
>> At least we're not expecting snow like we've seen on some Halloween's
>> over the years :)

JK> > Been there, done that. Today was in the low 60s but tomorrow may not
JK> get > out of the 40s. Snow in the western part of the state but we're
JK> supposed > to get just rain.

JK> Yes, I saw that parts of the country around Ohio got some white
JK> stuff.. and I think Chicago and South Carolina? Anyway some folks had
JK> a white halloween. Here it just threatened to rain, but didn't.

We got the rain yesterday as the western part of the state got snow.
Tonight we're supposed to go down into the upper 20s tho, January or
February weather.

>> we were > in that one.

>> That must have been scary.. even just the sounds I'd imagine.

JK> > Actually, I didn't know about it until after the fact. I just knew
JK> it > was really raining hard, and noisly as is typical in a mobile
 JK> home.

JK> I bet you were glad that's all you had to deal with.

Yes, definately. We didn't have much stuff with us but would have hated
to lose any of it.

>> > Very good for kids--hills for sledding, berry patches for picking
>> all we > could, lots of space just to ramble and explore.

>> Yes, same where I grew up... I'll never forget making my very first
