NB>>> Having the double rail could be useful for visitors, too...
RH>> And us, as we age. (G)
 NB>> Longterm, yes... :)

RH> And on some days, even the short term. Some days I feel years older
RH> than my actual age, other days I don't feel the age the calendar
 RH> says I am.

Pretty typical... :) The mind won't accept that so much time has
passed, it just seems like yesterday that we were whatever (in college,
just married, etc etc)... and then the body reminds with its aches and
pains and challenges... :) We put a rail up on the side of the house
for the side porch stairs, and it got more use by visitors for a
while... nowadays, there are days I need it to haul myself up, when the
legs (knees, ankles) don't want to work easily... :)

RH>> kitchen. We'll be exploring all the little ins, outs and quirks more
RH>> completely in a few days---signing is this Thursday afternoon.
NB>> And then it'll be yours for good or ill.. (G) To do with as you
NB>> want, or at least, can manage... ;)

 RH> Ours----and the bank's!

Details...! ;)

RH> We've already bought a garbage disposal, under sink
RH> water filter and high rise kitchen sink faucet to improve the place.
RH> Other changes will be made at a slower pace but those will make
RH> things much nicer in the kitchen.

Good things to put in right at the start, when you can... especially
when you do so much cooking... :)

NB>>> I think there was a gas stove at one point here, there certainly
NB>>> were gas lights that predated the electric ones in this house...
NB>>> and a few capped gas lines in the wall... ;) But the electric
NB>>> stove clearly dates to the 50's, so it's been a while... :)
RH>> Could be, that whoever put the electric stove in replaced a gas one?
 RH>> It sounds likely.
NB>> I think it quite likely. Or at least the stove before probably did...

RH> So you could, when this stove dies, go back to gas if you wanted to.
RH> Probably more hassle than it's worth tho, unless you really want the
 RH> gas stove.

Most probably more hassle, especially since when we redid the kitchen,
we moved the sink to the side of the kitchen where the stove had been
and the stove to the outer wall, so the still existing gas line is under
the sink now... ;) It would need extending/reworking to put in a gas
stove now... I wouldn't totally discount the idea, but it's also
totally possible that the ancient electric stove will outlast us as
well, making the issue moot... ;)

NB>>> Some people just don't take to technology very well... even when
NB>>> their minds are still working fine... just "wired"
 NB>>> differently... :)
RH>> Technology was really taking off in the 80s. Mom did a bit with it
RH>> but was never comfortable and never did get the hang of a lot of it.
RH>> She used to do a weekly letter and every week Dad would have to show
RH>> her how to wipe out the previous one & begin the new one. Eventually
RH>> the letters became less frequent until they stopped altogether some
 RH>> time ago.
NB>> Had she done much typing before the computer...? The concept of
NB>> needing to delete the old before doing the new isn't exactly something
NB>> one would have needed back in the days of typewriters... :)

RH> She did quite a bit of typing before computers came along. What was
RH> surprising was that she didn't "catch on" to how to delete the old,
RH> start the new letter--she had to relearn every week for over 20 years.

My point being that there was no need to delete before starting a new
one before the computer, one just took a fresh piece of paper and
started typing. No need to name stuff and then have to delete the old
to use the same name (or to rename it, if one wanted to keep the
previous letter for some reason). My aunt never has done that well with
technology, and her mind hasn't been slipping at all... she's into
genealogy and we've shared research findings over the years... But the
most she's done with the computer was doing genealogy messages on
Prodigy... as far as I know she's not even doing e-mail... she left all
that technology stuff to my uncle...

RH>> But, looking in retrospect, I now see little things that indicated
RH>> a bit of mental slippage here & there over the years which would
RH>> have made adapting to technology harder for her.
NB>> Always easier to see the traces from this viewpoint...

RH> Sigh! Yes, hindsight is always 20/20.

Or at least closer...

RH>>> end of the week, probaby will all be filled. I packed up most of
RH>>> my cook books this afternoon.
 NB>>> Progress... :)
RH>> And more this week. I'd packed most of my pots the other day so had
RH>> to grab the pressure cooker yesterday to cook some beet greens. I
RH>> used it as a regular pot tho, not pressurised.
NB>> Probably the only one big enough for the purpose left unpacked... ;)

RH> Yes so I'm getting more creative with my cooking. Ended up using the
RH> microwave for supper tonight but had made applesauce and a white sauce
RH> on the stove top earlier in the day.

Needs must... (G) And now, you just have to get the new kitchen in
order, and you'll be cooking back to normal again...
