The last couple visits the kitchen, though strewn with
equipment, food wrappers, and above all pill bottles,
has been neater, with at least half of the pots and
pans showing signs of having been washed.

If he weren't family I would never have had ties with him.

But in this case we cancelled altogether, because of a
mistake on my part - I'd thought that he was going to be
a quick bus ride from the place I suggested, but in fact
he had clearly said that he was going to be a mile away
from where I thought he'd said. By the time I figured that
out, it was easier just to postpone than rearrange - fine
with me, as my current state of lassitude is still
considerable and onerous.

I try to confine my attentions to paperwork, sleeping,
and chocolate. Could be worse, could be alcohol, as the
temptation to overindulge is substantial.

He's no doubt fallen for scams but not that obvious.

Sadly, I had a friend (viola player) whose son had some
condition on what is now called the autism spectrum and
one of whose compulsions was to respond to every junk phone
call and every piece of junk mail, giving money as
requested, unquestioningly. While the parents were living
within striking distance, the issue could be mitigated by
intercepting the junk mail, but later on when it came time
to retire to the warmth of the southland, and when the kid,
an adult by this time, didn't want to go along, what to do?

cat: spice, ingredient
yield: 1 c or a bit more

2 Tb salt
2 ts dry mustard
2 Tb freshly ground black pepper
2 Tb brown sugar
1 Tb chili powder
1/4 c paprika
2 Tb onion salt
2 Tb garlic salt

Combine ingredients and rub on ribs.
