My point was that hemp is useful for much more than "getting high". The problem
for law enforcement is that it's impossible to tell Illinois Ditch Weed from
Maui Wowie. Except by complex testing. It's easier for them to outlaw the whole
class. Hemp cloth still outlasts regular cotton.

Hemp generally proves more versatile than cotton; people can use it to make
biofuel, a replacement for fiberglass and even automotive parts, according to
the Reason Foundation. The Rodale Institute indicates that manufacturers also
transform hemp into paper and apparel, as well as edible oils and seeds. Cotton
is also somewhat versatile. In addition to various cloth items like pants and
towels, manufacturers also use cotton to make tarps and bindings for books,
according to the National Cotton Council of America.

Hemp and cotton also have some differences with regard to environmental impact.
It is possible to grow organic cotton; however in the U.S., farmers apply about
one-quarter of the nation's pesticides to cotton crops, according to
Environmental Health Perspectives. Hemp generally does not require as much
pesticide or herbicide to grow successfully, according to the Reason
Foundation. It also offers certain environmental benefits when used to make
things like paper and disposable cups; for example, the Rodale Institute
indicates that it whitens with hydrogen peroxide rather than chlorine bleach.

Laws in the United States permit farmers to grow cotton but not hemp. The
government prohibited hemp growing due to its association with marijuana,
although some hemp advocates suspect that competing industries influenced the
decision. However, exporters from other countries can sell hemp products to the
U.S. Some American stores carry such items, but hemp products remain harder to
find than cotton products. Many nations have legalized industrial hemp farming,
although some require farmers to obtain special licenses. Worldwide, farmers
generally face less regulation when growing cotton.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Israeli Orange Chicken
 Categories: Poultry, Citrus, Wine
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
      5 lb Roasting chicken
      2    Oranges; whole
      1 lg Onion; in large slices
    1/2 c  Orange juice; fresh squeezed
      2 tb Ginger; fresh grated
      2 tb Honey
    1/2 c  Wine
 
  Rinse and dry chicken. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  Insert one whole orange in the chicken. Place in roasting
  pan, breast side down. Surround with onion slices.
  
  Mix juice with the ginger, and pour over the chicken.
  Roast uncovered at 350øF/175øC for 1/2 hour.
  
  Remove chicken from the oven, turn over, and smear with
  honey. Surround the chicken with the second orange, sliced,
  and return to the oven. After five minutes, baste with
  wine and pan juices. If browning too quickly, cover with
  foil. Baste again, after 1/2 hour. continue cooking until
  drumsticks are removed easily, about 1 more hour.
  
  Remove the orange from the chicken, and slice it. Garnish
  with herbs, as per taste.
  
  Note: Haroset makes a good stuffing for this dish....
