===========================
Hi Michael,

RH> Knowing teachers in both segments, we know there are quite a few
RH> distinctives between the two. Private school teachers have a lot less
 RH> hassle from the state.

ML> Putting more pressure on the administration of the private
ML> ones, as they have to either set up their own standards or

Most often they have standards set by the governing agency of the
school. Challenger Schools (the one our son in law and daughter work
for) has several boards of directors, David is on the philosphical
board. He's also the Nevada Executive Regional Director, covering the
whole state, and is headmaster of one of the schools in Las Vegas. A
church related private school generally answers to the pastor, a
governing board of some sort and a headmaster or principal.

ML> "wing" it when hiring and evaluating faculty and also adhering
ML> to whatever state requirements apply.

They have a bit more leeway than public school in state requirements.
Most don't require as many standardised tests, teaching to the test and
so on. They can set standards as high or as low as they want for hiring
teachers. Challenger teachers aren't always state certified teachers but
must teach to a higher standard--the kids graduate from 8th grade with a
better than public high school education. In talking with our SIL, he
said that if Challenger were to have a high school program, they would
have to hire college level instructors. The standard curriculum includes
logic, critical thinking, and philosophy applied to all subjects. Our 3
(almost 4) year old granddaughter has known her letter sounds, blends,
etc. She has also been reading for several months.

RH> Those things do take time but if his underlying health is good, he
 RH> will recover faster.

ML> His underlying health is, er, dubious. He seems to be a
ML> tough old coot (68 or so), but if I am in his condition
ML> at that age, I will not be pleased.

In that you expect to be in better health?

ML> Yep. Exactly. And as far as healing goes, Swisher says he'll
 ML> always have a flap.
RH> I don't have one; the doctor went along the original incision (which
RH> had been "stitched" with super glue to open up the area again. He
RH> didn't take the time to do a "pretty" job but there's very few people
RH> that see the site now anyway.

ML> I guess they could do that for him, but maybe the VA in Alaska
ML> doesn't hold much truck with that kind of sissiness.

Mine was done by an Army doctor at Fort Stewart, GA.

 ML> Dark chocolate pudding
 RH> That looks decadently good!

 ML> I thought so, too.

There's very little chocolate that I turn down. (G)

ML> We treated ourselves to a seafood meal in
 RH> Savannah earlier this week.

ML> I had a seafood meal of very tough whelk and very tender sea
ML> urchin the other day. It was entertaining and good but not
ML> memorable the way the Wagyu meal was.

Some are very memorable for their--shall we say--lack of greatness.

 ML> I had boiled peel & eat shrimp--quite
RH> good, and fried scallops--more than a bit on the tough side.

ML> Were they tough as in overcooked or as in having the side muscle
ML> or some other way? And also, did they taste good?

They were overcooked tough, and no, they did not taste good. I've had
some that have been just melt in your mouth tender; these were chewy,
with no real flavor.

ML> Title: George Fassett's Hot Chicken Wing Sauce
 ML> Categories: Cyberealm, Sauces
 ML> Yield: 1 cup

I'm more familiar with Kaffi Fassett, a quilt & fabric designer. (G)
