As such, you're probably in the top 10 percent of people
who have taken the plane (if you're close to 300000). A
goodly proportion of the citizenry has not ever been in
an aircraft, and a goodly proportion of those never will.

If you could take that without flinching, you were
prepared for just about anything.

The pound each formula, easy for people to remember in the
days when gramma couldn't read and write, has been refined
quite a bit over the years - you'll note that the one I
posted has a fair amount of milk in it, a refinement that
I don't particularly endorse. They lost me with the cream
and mushrooms in this one -

Linguine with clam sauce
cat: airline, Hawaii
yield: 6 to 8 servings

1/4 lb butter
4 cloves garlic, chopped fine
2 (6 oz) cn minced clams with water
1 cn stems and pieces mushrooms
1/2 sm cn cream (optional)
salt and sugar to taste
chives (optional)
1 Tb cornstarch or flour (to thicken)
1 lb linguine

In medium pot, cook all ingredients together on medium
heat, bring to a boil, then simmer 15 min. Thicken as
desired. Prepare one box of linguine noodles per package
directions; drain. Pour sauce over linguine noodles
and serve.
