I have both GERD and a hiatial hernia.  I'm on a permanent prescription of
omperazole (the recent study showing that PPIs tend to break down the
stomach lining is a bit disconcerting to me).  I don't have many problems
with the GERD because of both the medicine and my strong tendency to stay
away from anything remotely acidic, espcially anything tomato-based.  If I
do order a pizza (rarely these days), I ask for no sauce and no toppings
that will give me problems (usually light cheese and mushrooms).

Coke, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero make me belch in the worst way no matter how
much I consume.  I'm trying to get soda out of my diet but it's hard...

I am trying.  I'm trying to get away from processed foods and wanting to get
off of some of this medication I'm on, so I figure anything I do to help
will help me reach my goal.

I've had okra properly prepared so it's not slimy, so I can take that on a
limited basis.  I'm trying to expand my tastes into veggies but for some
reason I am having a hard time doing it.  I'm hoping that once I can get my
own place that has a real kitchen in it that I can start cooking much
healthier and start eating more salad.  My second wife got me turned on to
spinach and arugula (sp?) salad.

My weirdness in food is going to have to be changed if I would like to live

I don't know if I'd call that a dessert exactly.

Off-topic, you're welcome to set up an account on my new BBS and I can set
it as permanent if you need a backup.  The conversion from OS/2 to Linux has
gone very well and I'm planning on keeping things the way they are.  What is
very nice is that the BBS software I am using is open source.  I've already
added a few small features into it, such as the ability to show an
ANSI/ASCII screen called "holiday.ans/.asc" since, as you know, I like to
put up a little screen celebrating a major holiday that's upcoming.

Here's something I need to make again soon as this is a comfort food for me
(my mother made these fairly often when I was a child)...

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Sean's Salmon Patties
 Categories: Main dish, Fish, Seandennis
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      1    Can (14 3/4 oz) Salmon
      4 oz Saltines finely crushed
      2 T  Onion flakes
      2    Eggs
      1 T  Lemon juice
      1 t  Black pepper
           Canola or vegetable oil for
           -frying
 
  Empty can of salmon into large bowl.  Remove extra skin and bones if
  desired.  Mix all ingredients, except oil, in bowl.  In your favorite
  skillet, pour enough oil to just cover the bottom and heat until oil
  shimmers.  Form patties into 4 inch by 1/2 inch patties and fry
  lightly until golden brown.
  
  Some taste suggestions: instead of using the lemon juice and pepper,
  try using a "lemon and herb" seasoning mix.  You could also add a
  teaspoon of dill if you like that.
