So I'm back to Anchorage - go to Swisher's house, do not
pass go, do not collect $200. It's been nearly a full day
spent between my bedroom and my bathroom. Fever and chills.
I've soaked through my bedsheets twice and two shirts as
well. I'm not certain what Alaska thinks I've done to it:
last year the same thing happened. My only companionship
is the phlegm pot by the bed, which I've emptied 4 times
(to be honest, I empty it when it gets close to half a
cup. Everybody else has run off, leaving me to my bronchitis's
own devices.

In Kodiak I'd bought a bottle of Vitamin C and have been
popping the pills superstitiously ever since. I doubt the
procedure has done me any good.

Tastes.

Safeway Care chewable vitamin C 500 mg - naturally and
artificially flavored with orange juice powder. These are
dead sweet and very orangey-tasting but with a bizarre and
unpleasant fenugreeklike flavor. Vitamin curry, anyone? I
hypothesize that this is added to prevent children from
eating the pills like candy. How can something be "naturally
and artificially flavored with orange juice powder"?

Hershey's TasteTations hard candies, chocolate flavor.
Ingredients: sugar, high maltose corn syrup, cream, milk
fat, cocoa processed with alkali, salt, vanillin, and
soya lecithin. These actually taste pretty good - sort
of like a hard candy version of Tootsie Rolls, in fact
better. I was surprised until I noticed the ingredients
list, with cream and butter and all. So in what way is
high maltose corn syrup better than any other kind of
high anything corn syrup?

Kellogg's Fruity Snacks, mixed berry flavor. The blueberry
ones aren't horrible, but then maybe I'm less offended by
artificial blueberry, as that's long been the only blueberry
flavor you could get, whereas fake strawberry and raspberry
just seem so unnecessary. Texture of soft gummies. Very
sweet. Lots of vitamins.

Sadly, I've not been eating much; the thought of food is
unappealing. The other day at a party I was off snoozing in
a room when Lilli wanted to offer me a slice of extra fatty
tri-tip and couldn't find me, so gave it to the host's dog
Caesar. I wasn't upset at all by this, which goes to show
how sick I am.
